Variable weight/sled spearfishing

Who's done it? Have some deeper (100m+) wrecks I'd love to work down to, just playing around with the idea right now

Are you serious? I am not really a big VBR diver and the conditions in which I typically hunt are not encouraging when it comes to great depth. Sometimes offshore on the deep pinnacles when the ocean is smiling I can make 40M drop to get a fish but most of time it is black and cold down there, done VBR also and did not care for the ascent speed when I came up sans weight, and when I have done it half weight I just ended up burning my legs finning around on the bottom.

If you can (1) see anything and EQ a glass spearing mask at 100M plus (2) muster the clarity to find, aim, and hit a worthwhile fish down there I want to hear about it...

I doubt even the biggest lung divers alive would be able to EQ a glass mask at 100M. When you hear of guys doing 100M dives in a mask it is with a plastic Sphera. While you can technically 'see' with a Sphera once it starts crushing it be very difficult to acurately aim. Perhaps with a lighted gun, which you would probably need anyway.

David Carerra also was down past -90m with one on constant weight!

Now... What would you do with a fish attached to you that deep? Do you have a 200m floatline!?!?!?

I'd also think hard about how much bottom time you'd have. That'd be a DEEP aspetto!! LOL

You'd basically have to land on the fish!

I've heard of 60 and even 70m VWT spearing in clear water (by world class guys)... Never 100m

@apneaaddict - thanks, I just looked that one up. Intriguing. I am gonna get one of those. I used to make about 35M CWT in my super ochio, then got I think a Zero which just touches 50M before riding.

Have seen a video on YouTube of Dave Mullins (I think) dropping to 45m holding a weight at the end of a rope. Then leaving the weight on the bottom and swimming back up the rope.
