Finally, I think you should try a monofin. It most likely help you to increase your distance.

My distance instantly decreased with use of monofin, it is gradually getting better but not yet where it used to be with byfins. I was always using dolphin kicks even with bifins and it is not the same with monofin, different stiffness and propulsion rate, lousy turns, I only hope it will get better over time.

Yes, give it some time to get used to and you should easily exceed your bifins' performance. Dolphin kicks with bifins are generally not recommended.

With monofin, I find best for me to use 2 kicks and then a glide phase. Long course pool helps - in short course pools my DYN is not much longer than my DNF!
