Here is a video from last year and is fairly typical of some of the freshwater spearing that is available locally.
Spearing is not permitted in Ontario for gamefish (just carp and suckers during a short season), so I have to drive 5 hrs to get this type of action.
Freshwater spearing is great fun. Low vis is almost addictive. It's great to balance out blue / clearwater 30m vis with this type of shooting / stalking.
I've since converted the gun into a 70cm roller gun for these sorts of conditions and now shoots strongly out to the end of 2-wraps.
Sometimes you're tracking fish through 5-6' high weeds (almost like skinny freshwater kelp hunting), sometimes you can barely see your spear tip and others the visibility opens up and you need to be able to take a 12'+ shot on a relatively small fish (think 9" freshwater perch).
