Just thought I'd introduce myself and say hi. I live in Dorset, just north of Bournemouth. My main hobby is surfing, but I have been so frustrated with the local conditions recently, and have to fuel a serious addiction to being in the sea, so took up spearfishing. I'd done a bit with a polespear on the reefs in in Indonesia whilst on a surf trip, and thought I'd have a stab here in the UK. I am no serious freediver, or anything like that, and am probably the kind of novice idiot, you guys in the know laugh at as you see me trundle down the beach in my inadequate surfing wetsuit, but hey...
My parents live in Dubai now, down at the Green Community near Jebel Ali. I have surfed a bit opposite the Dubal aluminium plant. It's really freaky as in winter you suddenly get these really warm surges of water that are expelled from the plant - I hope it's not full of pollutants, but hey. Also surfed Fujeira side and had some quite nice little waves.
Went for a tentative polespearing trip near the Burj, but didn't see any fish. Has all the development of the Palm killed them all - that sea should be teaming with life?!!
Anyway - would love to meet anyone into surfing / spearfishing who doesn't mind hanging out with a patent amateur. Dubai or Dorset I'm up for it!
