wave monofin??

im 14, very broke, and wondering if the finis wave monofin is a good fin for pretty much 14 foot diving in a pool... im also going to get into dynamic apnea... not mush money, and this is my first monofin... i might get a more expensive one along the way, but for now i just need to know if it is right for me...

If you can find the Wave mono fin in your size. They have a youth and a woman's up to 9-1/2. Save the $50 you would spend and put it towards a WaterWay Nemo or Model 1 through PFI when you save up.

I don't know how big you are, but the plastic Wave looks like it could easily be over powered with a good kick. $50 is still a fair amount of money to drop on something that is going to be temporary. Just my two cents.

Hi, i agree with Chris. Save some extra money up and buy a good monofin. Dont waste your money on a cheap and nasty one it will only hamper your progress if your training in Dynamic. I bought my one from fins4u.co.uk great carbon monofins (martin stepenik bought one from there) at reasonable prices. I got a sports carbon (med flex) and its all hand made and goes great.

I do understand your plight, well a tiny bit. A girl in the US emailed me about getting a mono. I recommended everything I possibly could to her but in the end, she could only afford a Finis, but that's because her parents are paying for her and they don't have too much money lying around. The Finis is ok for her because she's not going to freedive; she wants it for a mermaid tail.

When I was your age I worked to get money. Getting something never felt so sweet before.

I would just use normal fins and swim "dolphinstyle," until I got the money to buy a good monofin. For me I achieved alot in technique by using small snorkeling fins. I had a pair of yellow cressi fins and as my technique got better I cut of some cm. Now I can do 65m with 5cm fins This really helped me.

Even if you can afford it I would recommend something like the waterway model 1 or 2. This is a very good fin to start out with. I think Carlos Coste has done 100m+ with a model 1. Remember that these fins can break and you need to learn how to treat them. If your first wetsuit was a thin ,smoothskin yamamoto45 suit you would probably rip it pretty fast.

Since we're talking about the WaterWay monos, I recommend getting a model 1/2 with a soft blade and soft footpockets. More energy saved that way.

and also i need to know how to size the footpockets... i wear about a mens size 7 or 8... wut size shud i get??
and i was wondering about the competitor model by finis... is it better than the wave, because i dont want to buy the fin from a foreign country (cost more for shipping )

Again it depends...

I wear Nike size 8. I'm a small frame guy, 5'1 120 lbs.

I got my fin from SebakFins, ordered size 7-8 (European 40-42) still too big for me. But with 5mm neoprene socks, it's quite good fit. Though I probably need 7mm sock. I monofin in Pacific, so being warm for me is quite useful.

Without socks, you need to have a good fit, otherwise you spend your energy sliding in them.

So work with your supplier. Make sure you tell him your foot size, etc exactly.
