I've started to seriously weight-train recently and I don't wan't it to get in the way of my freediving ability. I live about 45minutes from the ocean and don't have access to a pool regularly so water training is difficult. I'm thinking about wearing my mask/snorkel while doing all of my cardio...at home.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or advice for me?

thanks, Riley

No reason to wear a mask, but if you wanted to get used to the breathing restriction of a snorkel you could just purse your lips while you breath to increase resistance.

I like the idea of (you) wearing full kit--suit, snorkel, mask, fins, weights, and spearguns--marching into the gymn and begin a work out--on the stair master! get it on TV. :t

I was thinking that the mask would prevent me from possibly breathing from my nose. Also the left over air/carbon dioxide in the snorkel would be more like diving. Your thoughts?

You could buy a Powerlung. It comes with a nose clip and works on restricting air flow. another thing would be to just breath through a straw.

Something that you may be more interested in is picking up a copy of Umberto's freediving manual. He has a whole section on different types of breath holds that you can do while walking/running. Some things are short duration- like holding your breath for as long as you can while walking. Others you can work into a running program- like only breathing every fourth or fifth step as you run. He has other ideas in there for weight training, stretching, and swimming.

on a serious note
- we were wearing gas masks for "quick'n'laxed" runs. I am talking about my experience in a navy. Proly one of the most brutal cardio conditioning training. Gotta have cartridge attached to make it work though. None will laugh of those who knows what it is. But then, those who served never laughs at clowns either... anymore.

Good idea. I'll pick up a copy of the book.
