Weighting

10% of your weight plus 1-2 pounds is the general rule around the palacial digs here, but I like being heavy. :king At 30' you'll be a bit heavy with 10% of your weight, but it's a good place to start.

Just make real sure you're doing all this with a buddy watching. :ycard
 
I should add that the formula above is for salt water with a 7 mil suit. And my body fat of 12%. No, hey really, Erik, I've been at the gym!! :t

Throwing on 10% with no suit in fresh water will get you down with no trouble, but the return trip can be a bit rough.
 
try putting a loop on your belt and tie a line from the float to the belt.
start shallow. That way if you get to much just dump the belt. Then you have the line on your belt. where I live the boat traffic is so dense that I only trust a line to the boat and dive off the side and stay near to it so hopefully no one snags the line.
