Hi,

Last weekend I was just practicing in a shallow lake only about 60 feet deep and would dive and hang out at the bottom for about a minute. I did this a few times with no problems but I started having problems at 20 feet with a sharp pain in my forehead just above one of my eyebrows it felt like sinus pressure but my ears felt fine and I made sure my mask was equalized. I tried a few more dives but I couldn’t get past 20 feet so I stopped for the day, I’m going to try again this weekend but does anyone have an idea of what this may be and how I can avoid it?

Thanks,

Keith

Sounds like you have a classic, blocked sinus, squeeze. Any sign of a cold? If you are unlucky or impatient (like I was), the problem can last a while. If it doesn't seem to have been caused by a cold or anything else specific and short term, think about giving it a rest for a couple of weeks. When you start diving again, don't push it. Stop at the first sign of discomfort or it it can get much worse. A short term dose of something like afrin, sudafed, etc might be beneficial until all inflamation disappears. If it continues past several diving trys, a short dose of cortizone pills (doctors perscription) works like magic.

Good luck and welcome to DB

I had exactly the same problem.
Give it enough time to heal and everything will be fine.

Get well soon!

Thanks guys,

I didn’t really feel like I was having any problems at the time but that could be it. I’ll take your advice and try again later.

Thanks again,

Keith
