weird snorkel(for breathe up?)

Anyone seen this type of snorkel before? Are they any good?

I've got that one and don't like it at all for anything but straight, freestyle, swimming. I much prefer my other Finis front mount snorkel that doesn't have the extra bend in it. It works great for monofining on the surface.

The one in the picture is their "freestyle" snorkel and is about half the price of their nicer front-mount, but not worth the money from what I've found. The one up from that has a purge valve on it, which isn't needed, but comes up higher and works better for monofinning, especially if there are waves that you are swimming into.

I guess it depends if you ditch your snorkel when you dive.

It would be very annoying to have that hitting into your mouth if you do dive with your snorkel outside of your mouth.

My routine is: flood it, spit it off, try to forget about it and curse it for vibrations of the tube waving all around. The Zoffoli front snorkel seems to be fixed on the front to avoid upper vibrations, but as you notice it will hit the teeth if spit off. However, the big challenge of that mask seems to be how to equalize the nose...

I use it to swim to the spot I want to dive. Once I get there I hand hold it in my hand to breath up and then tuck it in my weight belt when I dive. If your not planning on doing a lot of surface swimming it doesn't pay to use it, but if you are going to cover some distance it's the only way to go.

BTW: I am only talking about using it with a Monofin and not with bi-fins. For bi-fins a standard snorkel is much eaiser to use.

I am ordering my first monofin in the next few weeks and I am also buying one of these front faced snorkels. BUT not for diving, only for pool fitness sessions when im doing laps etc etc.

I use a Finis frontsnorkel that i found cheap for sale, it was missing the valve so i got some money back also.

Now i put a new flapper valve in and it is very good for monofinning and i sometimes spit it out when underwater, it only vibrates when swimming very fast underwater.

I've got a frontsnorkel now as well. It starts flapping about when I push off the wall and also swimming at very high speed. Pretty annoying ...

I guess there is no real way to get around that phenomenon when swimming fast.

The only problem with a front-mount for breathup is that due to its length it has much more dead air space than a normal snorkel. Try and you will notice the difference (or should notice).
They're not great for diving either if it's attached... you spit the snorkel out for the dive and it presses against your lips (annoying) then when you surface it dumps a huge load of water in your mouth when you take your first breath (extremely annoying hahaha).
