Hi guys, hope everyone is well. I'm away in Cyprus for 2 years and trying to get some spearing done over here. Haven't managed to get out much yet. Hope the action gets better over there soon as its always good to see what everyone is catching and reading how it went.
Any way i should hopefully get some leave at the begining of august so will try and pop out and catch up.

Hi, Ash, long time no speak. The weather down in Dorset is absolutely pap at the moment, so much for the summer. Hopefully the weather will be more like what you are used to in Cyprus when you are over in August. Maybe see you out for a couple of sessions then.
You must post your kills whilst in Cyprus, it would be good to see what you can get, but methinks you need to go deep in the Med to get anything, well deeper than what you might be used to here.
Wish I knew about Spearfishing when I did my UN tour in UNFICYP back in 1990.

I went spearfishing in Cyprus a couple of years ago. I went in every day off the shore just West of Kyrenia on the North Coast. The visibility was always amazing and the water was beautifully warm. However, in three weeks of going in almost every day I never saw anything bigger than the palm of my hand. I think you're right Scott, you need to go much deeper in the Med. I only went down to 12m max and didn't see anything that I'd be happy taking home. However, if you're willing to go deeper then I'm sure there must be some quality fish out there. I'd love to hear how you get on...

The forecast is for 5-7mph Southerlies/south westerlies so I am thinking perhaps Durelston, I know it may be slightly exposed but with the wind down, then maybe it is a goer, otherwise I may look around Studland way, along from Harry Rocks; not that I know anything about it. I would try Sandsfoot, but I want to keep away from that area as I have been there twice & saw nothing, well Newton's. Anyone got any better ideas? Rain looks like it may hold off until about 9 ish.

Yep, went for the 90, so now I'm itching to try it out. Father's day on Sunday, so it's my choice of venue! Where should I go? Looks like pretty strong SW winds, so is it Portland Harbour? If so, where should I get in the water?
i was in harbour tonight . vis was shockin and not a single bass seen. hit the middle arm on sat vis was ok loads of mully and few bass. took 4 mully 3lb each. failed shot on bass. if you are thinking of hitting the harbour from shore it may be a good idea getting in from newtons and swimming out to first entrance. hope that helps.
I did it a couple of times to enter in Newtons Cove and heading to the entrance of the arm is quite long way it takes about 40 minute each way and I recommend only if you are well trained and strong legs even because the current at the entrance sometime can be very strong. In the cove close to the shore is good I had quite few bass in the past.
thats a good shout. it is a long way and is true about the current. i do that swim quite regular. given i am 26 and i would say in good shape. i always take my float along with me and a few times i have laid on it on the swim back. if you are not use to long swim i sugest not to try it. if you do and you find yourself running out of puff the wall is there so use it to catch a little rest. DIVE SAFE
failing that idea . there is i little reef off of the nothe. nice few bass off of there. i do recommend use of a float with flag because of boats. but that is usual practice for me.
