hey just got my hawaiian sling today and was wondering what type of fish are legal and also good eatin in or near carlsbad, so california, thanks

brock1,

Wow, someone with the drive to still use a sling. It is the best way to start and introduce yourself to our sport. I still love to use my sling.

As far as the legal issues please refer to the california dept of fish and game web site and anylocal posted laws as well.

Now for taste there is a wide variety of eating around that area depending on the area you are diving. Sandy bottom, now the Halibut are in and spawnig and up in the surf area you can find corbina and yellow and spot fin croakers (all not bad) I dont enjoy the taste of pearch but some do and there are all type of perch. Once you fine tune your stalk you might even get a chance at some Calico out in the kelp and rock reef.

Remember make your shots good and please only shoot what you are going to eat.

Good luck

Joel.

PS what type of sling did you pick up?
