Also the wearing pants are useful so that you don't lose control because of feelings of shame in the very end, when things sometimes happen.

Soo, is it neccesary to give the OK-sign following accidents like this? rofl
I suspect you are reffering to letting out ehm.. "air"? Or perhaps accidents of a greater magnitude?? At least te first one of the alternatives can happen if i push myself.

Mostly air, yeah.

Quoting one unnamed finnish diver who recently failed at a NR attempt:
I was suffering from a stomach flu, and it was not very relaxing to hold my "breath" on both ends

He did 7:05 despite, respect for that :)

It's been a "project" of mine to train that, by "ice swimming", which is quite popular among different types of nutjobs hereabouts. You have a hole in the ice, and you dip in, preferrably every morning before work. I genuinely believe that doing this regularily for some reasonable time would increase tolerance to cold water (if nothing else, at least mental tolerance) significantly.

Dips so far: 0, been at it for 2 years :)

I simply cannot muster the will. I hate cold water!

I hate cold water too. It feels soooo awful. I have got a bit more used to it recently, so I can now get into a 26C pool without getting 'cold contractions'. (Don't laugh, that's quite an achievement for me.)

I know what you mean Jome about "it just feels like you don't want to leave at all and you really have to remind your self of the objective reality of staying." Sometime when I am under it feels so comfortable and natural that it seems like I could stay down forever.....of course when I start thinking that I tell myself that it is obviously not true and i will be in serious trouble if I do!.....unless I figure out how to grow those gills i'vev been wanting for so long......back to the lab for that me thinks! :)

That has to be Blaines new attempt or at least should warrant AIDA getting it up as a new discipline for world ranking

Another question - for those who don't use any mask, goggles or noseclip, what about the surface protocol? Or isn't it allowed in competition to do statics without them?

You can do it withoug goggles and a clip, but then you have to put off your swimming suit (and wet suit, if used) during the SP to satisfy the judges :D

I was using a noseclip, but I've since changed to using a mask, since that most accurately simulates what I'd be wearing during an actual dive. Once I have my low volume mask, I'll switch to that!
