I have a Jbl Teak magnum that is 56 inches but the conditions I hunt in are 60 foot plus vis
And about 70 foot down reefs.

Depends on the range you expect to shoot fish at. With 60' vis you might consider this bluewater hunting if you get large fish at some distance, which might require a very long gun. If on the other hand you are scurry around gulleys, in caves and under rocks, obviously you would want a much shorter speargun. Or perhaps one of each? Or compromise on something in between (e.g. 90-115cm barrel length0.

Forum member Miles used 110cm & 115cm barrel length railguns as his reef guns in South Africa, and much longer guns for bluewater tuna fishing. In the UK we might use spearguns of 75cm barrel length or less for reef fishing. We rarely use anything more than 90cm here, although folk sometimes use 105/110/120cm here for specific locations/conditions.

BTW I work in barrel lengths, in cm, which is appropriate for euro spearguns & SA railguns. It is normal to work in inches & speargun lengths for woodies. To help compare, speargun barrel lengths are typically 40cm less that the spear length (sometimes 30cm). And an inch is 2.54cm.

Why don't you just try your current speargun and decide if it is too long/too short and by how much (e.g. much too short or just a bit too short)? i.e. Suck it & see ;)
