what kind of diving light is your favourite?

I like them cheap and reliable with rechargeable battery and a powerful beam - for spearfishing (looking under rocks & in caves), on snorkel not SCUBA. LEDs now make it possible to have inexpensive, bright, reliable torches with good battery life :) I found something reasonable for my needs on Amazon (I also got a little mask torch from ebay as a back-up). I replaced the lanyard before use - that was the main negative comment on the torch at the time, the lanyard supplied was too easy to break. So I made a good, strong one.

Whatever you get, make sure you fit a strong, reliable lanyard & lube the O-rings regularly (which rubber-friendly lube) to avoid leaks.

Anything hands free................ that works, underwater kinetics do a few models that fit the bill and attach to your mask strap as do Northern Divers whose products seem very well priced! You can also get neoprene torch holders that strap to your forearm ;)

Hello I recently got a Bigblue AL 1000NP ($120 Aus) and its dead set great. Li ion rechargeable Battery and solid Aluminium, five stage switch, battery indicator built into the button and an emergency SOS function. Up to 1000 lumen for two hours and 20 hours on low which is still a good brightness for general use. They make heaps of models but I can if their all this good for the money you would do well to find better. And best of all its a battery I can source from Battery World.

This may be of interest to you. Over forty years ago, some wreck diving buddies of mine made their own lights. They used automotive headlights, that they strapped to their wrists using surgical tubing. They ran a cable from the headlights to a battery pack they wore on their waist. Very creative and very effective.
