ok, i have 3 x 75 cm guns and fancy a 90cm, what are the differences in using them around are coast especially pembrokeshire

Hi pembroke, i have just recieved my new gun 2day its an omer hf2 90,
its not rigged yet plus i havent got a suitable wetsuit to use it atm, you are
very welcome to have a look at it if you wish..

You have much more manouvrability with the shorter guns when the viz is low. It DOES make a huge difference as I picked up a 75cm for my last dive and found it much easier to aim at a fish in close range when they scoot by. You just have a further distance with a 90cm gun when the viz is better. One mutual friend uses a 110cm mate haha! I use a single line wrap on the 90 with a double line wrap on the 75 but will probably be changing back to a reel again come next season.

A 90/75 is a good combo to use.

Yep 110cm is the way forward!! twin bands as well... not letting that bass swim away! Have found it ok but now gone back to the carbon 90cm for the last few dives. I havent used my 75cm all year even in the worst viz... prob should have though as I did miss a few fish as I wasnt quick enough!
Got my 130cm to try out next year!!! breakaway and slip tip on a 4lb Bass may be a bit of overkill tho!!

Back to topic! I dived with a 75cm for a number of years but find the extra range of a 90cm really handy, can really make a differance on those spooky fish days.

where do u live

Hi pembroke, i took the kds to lego land so i havent been online for a few days.
I live in pembroke near orange gardens.

I use the Omer XXV Gold 90 but as it uses a shorter spear as standard it has an overall length between a 75 and a 90 but with the power of a full 90. Also the design including the 6.3mm spear as against the standard 6.5mm spear used on most guns gives it superior range to a standard 90.

Great gun if a little tricky to use. I use no other (excepting my specialist night diving gun).

Dave.

O.M.D , are you still using the band lifters on your Omer ?
Did they work out OK ?
I would recommend the xxv Gold too , a very nice gun , but as Dave say's it takes a little getting used to .

Yes, I have used it all season. It has worked out very well and I have had no problems. It makes aiming much easier and the balance and tracking remain the same. The construction method has proven ideal and there's no sign of any wear. Only downside is that it is a little more tricky to load as you have to make sure that the bands are on top of the lifters before you pull them back. I am currently using the small clear plastic bridge to make a closed muzzle but am also crossing over the shooting line as in a closed muzzle set up. I just find this an easier set up to load especially with a double wrap of mono.

For anyone who missed it this is the thread http://forums.deeperblue.com/euro-spearguns/83433-euro-tabbed-spears.html . As mentioned in the thread I have trimmed the width of the lifters but haven't put on a final photo. Maybe I'll update it tomorrow if I get a chance.

Dave.

Thanks Dave , I might have a play with mine over the winter .
I seem to have to aim a little lower than normal with the circular band set-up , so I guess I'm aiming along the bands , although I try not to .
Pembroke don't let any of this put you off , it's still a great gun .
If you use the threaded bands it's no problem , just doesn't look as sexy ( imo ) .

Hello! I have questions about spearguns. There are Mares Phantom FV 95 and Mares Instinct GT 90 in our shops, but i would like to know what are your thoughts about these spearguns, expecially - Mares Phantom FV 95! Is power and precision good enough? Or i should send Omer Cayman hf-2 rubbers omer 18 power or Seatec Gabbiano-1 rubber 20 mm?? I'm asking because i read these are one of the best, as peple say. Thanke You

Hi Eddi, welcome to db.
What type of conditions will you be fishing in? what will you be shooting?

Thanks!
I'm living in Norway and i'm shooting in North See. I have had 50cm long speargun, but i have to say, i can't use it in the sea. So, i have decided to bye smth serious and i would like the best. Visibility in the water is very good, i can't say which fishes there are, coz don't know these norwegian fishes (i'm not norwegian), but i want my new speargun to be precise and as powerfull as good. I'm thinking about 110cm long speargun, or You suggest to use 95cm?

EDDI if you are fishing in norway i would suggest anything from a 95+ as from what I have seen the visibility is very good, single or double band setup works well, especially for those big pollack and cod.

You have some cracking fishing there, make the most of it I am very jealous :)

Joe

In this chat everybody talks only about OMER XXV Gold 90, but i'm interested in Mares Phantom FV 95, which i can bye here in the shop, or i should take Omer Cayman HF2, which i could send. Fishes here are about 1-5kg big. Every place here is different and i'm traveling a lot. That's why i'm interested to get speargun, which is precise and powerfull. What could You suggest?

Hey!! Thanke You for helping, i made my choise - Omer Caymen HF!
But i have one other question. What is the difference between spearfishing masks and simple diving masks? I know, that spearfishing masks are smaller, but why is that so? And which masks you prefer?
