While moving files from an old computer, I ran across a .wav file with a recording taken at the white sea bass grow-out pen at Catalina Harbor about 10 years ago. I can email it to anyone who would like to have it to get him through long winter nights, and a friend put it up on his web site so I can post the link. It was recorded at night, and the crackling sound is from snapping shrimp.

In the second version, he filtered out some of the crackling.

When we hear this, we know they are nearby, but it drives us nuts when we can't see them.

Thanks Bill. It's been a long time since I heard that sound. brings back lots of memories.
