I have decided to try and build a wooden speargun, because i simply think that they are works of art. This may be a little big for around where i live but it should be really nice to look at, so that doesnt matter too much....

All the laminates after the clamps have been removed. I am using Iroko for the two outer laminates and maple for the inner one, to create a nice contrast

Gluing the handle. I decided to try a Mortice and Tenon joint to attach the handle. I cut the Tenon to size later and shaped the handle with a rasp, file, sandpaper and a weird sander thing.

The band slot cut and sanded. It is sized to accomodate up to 3x16mm bands, but that would definitely be overkill for round here.

The handle fits nicely and as you can see, it is quite big!

Today I made the drigger pocket. To do this i drew on the blank where i would neeed to drill and how much. Then i drilled 4x4mm pilot holes with a pillar drill, so that the wood wouldn't split and there was a guide for the main drill bit. My trigger mech (in the background) is just over 16mm so i used a 16mm drill bit and then finished the pocket off with a chisel and sandpaper. I made the hole in the underside of the blank that the trigger pokes through 8mm instead of 16mm, to make it look neater.

The trigger fitted in the pocket.

The trigger fits really nicely, and doesn't interfere with the joint that attaches the handle. Really happy with how it is turning out so far! Can't wait until i start shaping it, but the next job is to cut the spear track.
