Hi BJ, Welcome. It's good to come across a young person with an interest. First: Please *BE CAREFUL*. Are you doing this with adult consent & expert supervision? Are you and your parents aware of the various dangers involved, for example, SWB? At 13 you still have a lot of growing left to do, consequently some of the information on this forum may not be appropriate/correct for you.

Perhaps some of the experienced trainers on the forum will be able to provide some age-appropriate advice.

Thank you and yes I have been doing this with adult supervision and I don't do it very often also my mom once had a bf who was a free diver so she knows about SWB and all the basic safety procedures but I'm still not satisfied with 3 min and I really want to improve

Probably not the answer you want, but joining a swim team would probably help you in the long run as a freediver, and at 13 years old there will be loads more opportunity for you than as a freediver. You probably know there is more to it than breathhold, and good swim training can help immensely. You don't need to always try and max out everytime; do swim training and even if you have no interest in racing, the same water awareness that helps swimmers race helps freedivers move more efficiently in the water. In your swim workouts, you can work your breathhold by using a longer stroke breath interval. Ie, most comp swimmers are gonna breahe every 3 strokes or maybe every 5 if their coach yells at them. But you just practice breathing every 7. And if you work it, that number will go up, as will your max hold.

Some kids play that fainting game or blackout game - it's got a whole lot of different names, are you wanting to learn breath holding for that? Sounds like it huh. If so, not cool. Very dangerous. You know that you can end up crapping or peeing yourself too when doing it too sometimes don't you. And that's not the worst that can happen.
