Does anyone out there have any info on working as a DM / Diveguide in Mexico?

Is work available at Dive Centres based on the Pacific Coast eg. Baja California / Los Cabos?

Also, what would be the best time of the year to travel to Mexico in order to find work?

All help gratefully received!

There's lots of work available in Mexico. Let's see - the average salary for a divemaster in Cabo was $33 per week, but that was last year so it might have changed. This was for Mexican nationals, so as an under-the-table foreigner without a work permit, you might get a place to sleep plus tips.

The best place to look for work in Mex is Cabo and Cancun. They have the biggest centers for work in that area. You will need to get first your FM 3 licence then look for work then you will need your FM2. If you try to work without these basic work permits eventualy someone will get jelous of your hard work and try to turn you in. Then they deport you and take all your stuff. There is work possible but your plan must be well thought out and many contacts must be made prior to starting.

Finding work there is another story. Usualy the dive operator is the dive master. The boat operator is hired as crew. Your best bet is to start a mex corportation and then figure out what dive you enjoy and then go from there.

Buena Suerte!
