I made a couple of rubber neck weights last week and was testing them in the pool. When I made them I used broad tape for wrapping. I wrapped them while they were flat/straight and when I buckle the ends the tape bunches up and makes ridges on the inside.

Is there a better material to wrap with or something like a heat activated shrink wrap? Or am I missing some technique?

I've tried sheathing the weight in heart shrink but it's still wrinkling on the inside. Any ideas on how to get around this?

What I do is use double inntertibe.. (it's quite hard hard slide one piece into another) and then I don't wrap the neck weight.. but the extra layer of tube means it won't break and drop lead everywhere.

I'll give that a try, also been thinking of using a smaller diameter tube with a smaller circumference, which may not wrinkle in the first place?

The wrinkling is most likely not the tube itself, just the tape, which is why I only tape the ends. I don't think it would matter what size tube you use, generally go the smallest diameter for the weight you need though, so it's not baggy.

You were right that most of the wrinkling comes from the wrap (heat shrink in my case). I've also tried a smaller tube (30cm for a kids bike) and that helped too.

I always put a sport-tape (Kinesiology Tape - Water Resistant Sports Athletic Tape - Waterproof Physical Therapy Tape) on the round already closed neck weight for protection. No problems with wrinkeling.
For the neck comfort I put a neopren tube on the upper part.
This one is 2,5 years old.
