There is a sailboat down at 55 ft. A lot of kelp growing off it. My first dive on the boat I saw one that looked to be in the 40 pound class, but it was swimming away by the time I noticed it. But I knew they were around. So I started diving deeper than the boat and coming up to it while scanning the water and the kelp. The current moves right through there, and it was going pretty good. Pretty murky too, which is why being deeper helped to see what I was looking at. Looking up allows you to see shadows. Anyway, took a dive to 50, nice and slow. Kept quiet the whole way down. Saw the boat and started scanning, and this White Sea Bass comes right in front of me. I line up the shot, and right as it disappeared into the murk, I took my shot. It took my floatline all around the kelp and the boat. I thought I lost it at first, because the fight was real short. But after a couple dives of following my line, I saw it belly up behind the boat, on the sea floor at 60 ft. It was hard work untangling it, but after twenty minutes or so, I had it free and on land. 27 pounds 44 inches. Hoping to find some bigger ones soon.
