Bulk rubber question (making for first time)
Hi
I have read a bit on rubber and making new rubbers but still have a few questions.
Basically it seems to make sense to make your own from bulk rubber as the paired threaded ones are quite pricey.
It would be for a euro type gun - about 100cm - probably no reel - 6.5mm shaft - for shooting in UK waters (bass mainly).
If I was to buy bulk rubber which type would you recommend:
++ black or amber ?
++ diameter ? 16mm or 18mm
Can I use any crimps ? Or do they have to be special ones ? I was thinking that buying a load from a fishing supply shop might be cheaper than the spear-specific ones.
Same with the mono and lead shot. (I will probably follow the instructions here : http://spearguns.netfirms.com/powerbands.html).
I can get a reel of high breaking strain mono fishing line, the lead shot and possibly the crimps from a local fishing shop. I have the crimping tool.
What about the dyneema ? Can any medium thick cord be used ? Or does it have to have specific properties ?
For tying the constrictor knots I was planning on using some braided fishing line that I have (from a salmon fishing reel that came my way - same cord I use on my current speargun [a very retro Super Blitz footloader....about to be updated to maybe a Picasso Century 100 or a railgun RA or Rabitech - yes, need to look into suitable muzzles too - alot of these have screw-fit rubber]).
So does anyone know where I can buy rubber in bulk (but not too bulk ! I won't use loads - but a few mates spearfish too - was planning on splitting it) in the UK ?
