The WaterTrek 360 recently tested the xtar SD2 beacon in the the silty, low-visibility waters of New England, where beacon lights matter. The 100-lumen constant white mode actually ran for almost 4 hours, exceeding the rated 3.3-hour runtime, and he found it easier to spot than other beacon lights he'd previously used.

This small beacon is only 2.8 oz (with battery), compact but versatile. It offers 9 lighting modes (white, red, blue, and green with constant and flashing options, plus strobe). Having multiple colors is surprisingly useful—not just for visibility, but also for identifying buddies, marking entry/exit points, ascent lines, or buoys.
