Its beginning to drive me crazy that people ask questions specific to SoCal, but don't put them in the California-West Coast forum. Does anyone even know its there? Blue water is world wide, but you are asking a SoCal question, and SoCal divers might be the best source of an answer.
But sorry for venting- I guess that's my personal problem.
Yellowtail under paddies can be pretty stupid, especially if in big schools. Some people use Euro style guns in the 120 cm range. I use multiband Wong hybrids from 55" to 60", but then I've shot a yellowtail with my 50" three band hybrid when it was new and I wanted to test it out. But then there are a bunch of guys on Spearboard lately that think they need big multiband guns from 63" to 68" so as to get the spooky fish. No matter how big the gun, there will always be a fish just out of its range.
My recommendation would be something in the 55" to 60" range. Then if you ever got a chance to hunt white sea bass, it would work for that too.
That 30 pounder I'm holding in the first photo was taken last summer with a 55" hybrid. The 27 pounder that my friend Daniel is holding in the second photo was taken this spring with a 60" hybrid.
Please come over and take a look at the CA forum. We are lonely there, and I want more people to read the reports I've been posting.
