Okay, I've now received too many unsolicited emails from strangers telling me that zinc lozenges are an effective prophylaxis against sticky-ear and sinus equalization problems - can't ignore it anymore.

Anybody know anything about this ? The zinc lozenges being referred to are evidently of the Cold-Eeze type, normally sold as partial relief for the common cold.

It's news to me, but it would be swell if it's true.

Zinc lozenges worth a try certainly could have a strong placebo effect. Perhaps there should be warning for others not to try this while diving for fear of chokeing or perhaps trying food rotation diet may help could problem be a allergen. Also i would like to thankyou for your great stories on DeeperBlue

You're right about the statutory requirement for a warning:

***DO NOT SUCK ZINC LOZENGES WHILE DIVING***

The concept is to suck them, one every four hours, for a day or two BEFORE diving.

Thanks for the heads up.

I have a bottle opener, a plastic one made in the shape of a glass of golden beer with a lovely white foam head. A sticker on the bottom says:

WARNING: FOR SEEING ONLY NOT EATING. MADE IN CHINA

I guess they know what they're doing.

This made me think of all the Play-Doh sets we sell at "TRU" with a food theme; they all say "Fun to play with, but NOT eat!". Says something about the intelligence of the standard American consumer! :D As for the zinc lozenges, and with my sticky ears, hey, I'm game! Although, last night I did a few negative pressure dives (full exhale, 3 reverse packs) to the bottom of a 12' pool, and was ALMOST able to equalize at the bottom on the second attempt. Could be progress!

Way to go ! Definitely progress. Who was your buddy????

Just a local bud who's gone with me a few times. At least I have the luxury of a deep pool that's only a 20 min. drive away to get into once a week. By next Spring, I'm going to have all my problem areas NAILED! :D (Paul, you'll be happy to know that my kicking is improving, too, using your suggestions!)

Back to equalisation trouble....does anyone know of the best way to clear eustacean tubes. It just so happens that for the past week i havent been able to equalise at all and i don't know what to do, the doc say it will get better in a week or so but the diving is good now. If anyone who can shed some light is would be great.

Peace, Tim
