Holy cow! So jealous; we can't shoot carp here for a few months yet. How ridiculous, to have a season on carp

Just an FYI, I brought home a 6lb carp, well, the better half of a 6lb carp. I did not fillet it very well, but I got 2 decent slabs of meat off of it. Now it goes to my mother-in-law, she said she used to eat carp all the time. We'll see what she has to say.

The only other Carp we get is Buffalo.

Pic: dotey with a Buffalo Carp

Hmm never heard of a buffalo carp but they look strong?
We get three main varieties Types of Carp, Mirror Carp, Common Carp, Grass Carp at Exclusive Lakes
Interestingly the mirror carps were especially developed as a food fish, through programed breeding the majority of scales are missing. This was done to avoid the necessity to scale the creature pier to cooking!
Nowadays very few Englishmen eat carp but they still remain popular with our Eastern community.
Carp can be very valuable with big fish of 40lb + worth a small fortune to fishery owners who can advertise the fish in there lakes.

this is two more carp to my list for the 2008 year they were shot at the outlet in madison saturday 3-15-08 i belive the total for the year now is 11 :martial

hey IL let me know who the carp feast goes scott and i might have to try it out after you do

I did a horrible job filleting it, but I don't get a lot of time to practice. I soaked it in fresh water and changed it often as I was cleaning up and doing other things. I gave the meat to my mother-in-law and thought she would cook it up last night or today....she put it in the freezer. Hopefully soon though.

Hey guys! I actually didnt take my gun with me. The interesting news is that a guy just pmed me on hawaiiskindiver.com saying that hes got extra gear and that hed like to take me out. So I think Ill take him up his offer. Thanks for the luck. And if I do end up going to college there, you are all more than welcome to brave the surf in fins with me to get out to w/e reef you guys want to see. Im off.

Update on some of the Prizes/Give-aways:

I got a package from HammerHead yesturday with T-shirts and sweatshirt along with pamphlets, rulers- so, the shirts will be added as part of the monthly event winners choices. The pamphlet/brochures will be available for anyone interested- also a couple copies of SKIN DIVER MAGAZINE - "First come first serve"

ALSO, while in the Tampa Bay area- We were able to meet Ray Odor- Ray makes spear shafts, spearguns and POLESPEARS. Ray gave me a POLESPEAR at cost for the contest!!!!! It's a 6' but can also be extended or have different tips put on. They are Heavy Duty.

:friday

Oh man! You talked to Ray Oder?!? I need some work done by him, and he told me he would do it, I just never shipped the parts. Thats a huge bummer, if I would have known I would have sent some stuff along with you! Which issue of HSD is it? If its the ulua one im not interested, otherwise mark me up for one.

Whopperhead, I also added wisconsin speargun hunters on myspace so yea, throw one more person up there on the friends list.

I shot 5 more Carp today at The OUTLET. Vis was Horrible, But the Urge was Great. I braved 2-3 foot waves and 1 foot visiblity.

My Total for the 2008 season so far is 31 CARP. :martial

I know the feeling, just going and feeling your way along the bottom because even though the lake has given up on you, youll never give up on the lake. :blackeye

Nice fish. As soon as I get my beuchat, Im going out. So in about two weeks I think.

Good job Tass! I still got ZERO on the board...:blackeye But ya gotta love them Buffs...They fight hard if ya don't stone 'em! :martial

Good to see you're back at it again!

Hey man Nice gun (HH)...Hey man nice shot...You're a good shot man! Who does that song anyways? rofl

Hope to see ya this summer at some of the outings!

On a good day at the right lake or river one could slaughter lots & lots of carp...You never know who will do it...Maybe more than once...Turn that water a dull pink so many fish are dyin'...YeeeeHaw! I bet "The Outlet" could be like that sometimes...Never been there yet myself though. Someday.

As soon as L.G.'s shallow bays warm up just a little more all kinds of fish will be in new growth weeds big time...Some guys out there the other day when Scott, Dustin and I were there, were tellin' me that when they're puttin in piers around the lake in May, they see what they beleive to be about 40 pounders (carp) fairly often! Not lot's of 'em, but really, really BIG ones I guess.

I'm down with that bro!!!

If I go to michigan, and stone like 100 of those little gobies with a polespear do they count? roflBecause they are invasive, they got here through ballast water.

I think I actually read that you cannot even possess a gobi. Not sure if we could count that- I guess I would if you ate them

I schwack them little gobies all the time while in Lake Michigan if there's nuthin' else around...Makes good target practice! I've polespeared a couple of pretty HUGE ones too! Like 6 inchers!!!rofl

Nasty, slimey little fish...Yuck! Not even the Seagulls will eat one! Thats gotta tell ya sumthin'! :yack

By Saturday evening I WILL be "On The Board" with some sort of BIG fish...Hopefully anyways! :martial

NOT A GOBY!
