It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I dont see why not? They are invasive. And you dont eat the carp... most of them anyways? Oh well that wouldn't be fair anyways. But lets get out, group activity!

maybe we could do another category for a pick- Most Gobi's. - I personally don't know if i want to damage my tips like that- but go ahead. They're just so small- an not worth the trouble- i don't know what damage they do either. I need more info.

Yea, thats true. They must be eating somethings food though because they are all over the place.

Finally! I'm "ON THE BOARD!" With TWO species! I Did'nt go out yesterday - But I did today :inlove... I Had a blast...coulda' whacked carp all day long, but was being choosy and only going for bigguns'!

The REALLY BIG ones (carp) stayed just outside of my range...Bounced off of a big mama that had to go 30 pounds or better...:head However these two beast will do! I also got three nice crappies!!! Biggest one at 13 1/2 inches....The other two were just barely 13 inches...Still, they filleted nicely, as they had "some shoulder's" and were pretty thick! Saw a bunch of Northern Pike and Walleye too...Not too many Bass. Also missed on a decent Yellow Perch - probably 11 or 12 inches. Did not even see a Bluegill...

CARP - The biggest one was 34 inches on the button, and tad over 21.5 pounds, for a total score of 55.5
The other carp woulda netted a score of 52.5

CRAPPIE - 13" & 1/2" inches properly measured per DNR guidelines. (mouth closed-pinched tail)

Rough-fish TOTAL - Only 2 so far!

It was SOOOooooo Awesome to get out in some warmer water! I had 57 degrees at times! Did about 3 hours and "started" to get cold...Then the boats seemed like they were closing in on me - so I left... "A Happy Camper", might I add! :t

EDIT - Is Jon's Carp a 54 or a 57...??? Looking back I saw somewhere it says his scored a 57? While "looking back" I also saw some "general" rules...I DID NOT get a PIC with the tape measure - Jon did though!!!

The Crappies have already been fillted and eaten! (My wife and I could only eat two of 'em!) The carp...They lay in a field about a mile from here...I thought we were on an "honor" system...If they don't count no big deal...There WILL be bigger fish...Next time I'll be sure to get a pic with a tape...But it's kinda hard when the wife get's queazy over dead fish and tries to avoid having anything to do with them but eating or cooking them! Also people at the boat launch seem to be in a hurry...But I did grab a kind fisherwoman to take the "carp" shot...I had to actually "chase my wife down" to get her to take a pic! Finally after chasing her through the house with a crappie...My wife reluctantly took a pic of me with my 13.5 inch Crappster...And then said "Get that smelly thing outta my house!!!" I weighed the carps on the family bathroom scale - while holding the fish...Wifey did'nt like that either! Got a drop of blood on it!!! So now I have an excuse to "come home" with a digital fish scale one of these days!!!! The bathroom scale we have is pretty accurate though...So do my fish count or not?

I would count those- bgill - It is done on a honor system- But you are Right JON's Carp scored 57 - I just screwed it up somewhere. He had a carp 33" long and it weighed 24# for a total score Of 57- But That won't last long- Once I get to the outlet again- there were some beasts in there. But Bgill- that Crappie take the lead for LARGEST CRAPPIE. But I have a feeling that isn't goint to last long either.

yeah when we get back to the water horses that are at the outlet right now its like shooting a tank or something they are big looks like someone has to get there with me

I'ma gonna hafta checkadat place out eh! (The Outlet) Only 1 hour away from me I think...

I actually ALMOST went there today... But ended up working instead...Gotta make hay while the sun is shinin' - so they say...:head

I try to take off one day a week - if possible...I've also been know to throw my stuff in the van and hit up spots/lakes after work...Depending on where I have jobs at that day and however long I think they may take me! Sorta nice...That way I get paid for driving to go divin' in a sense! :t

This week I'm JAMMED solidly...NO day off...:waterwork

I do have 3 days off next week to go Turkey huntin'....But turkeys just don't turn me on anymore like spearfishing does! Lucky for them turkey's! :hungover Too bad for some poor fish!

I think we're gonna see some "true hawgs" speared this year for sure!

JON's Bluegill might be a hard one to beat though...10.5 is a "true hawg"....They don't get too much bigger 'round these parts! I once (a long time ago) hook & lined a 11.5 incher and it looked crazy it was so big!

10.5 is a very respectable bluegill.

Bgill, it looks as if you and I wear the same sunglasses. Your crappie is also a slabber, but I know of a place where they get to be longer. I think I might be able to take that crappie record home with me. We are counting field carp? Because there are a couple little ponds formed by how high the wisconsin was recently that are packed with breeding carp. Dont know what the vis is, but it should be like shootin fish in a barrel :blackeye.

I don't make the rules...I thought of that (field carp) myself for a moment too though the other day... :martial I know where there are farmer's field's with 2-5 feet of tea colored water over parts of them and they are chock-full with some GIGANTIC 30-35 pound Buffalo carp. I used to go there with chest waders and a bow and slay some real slobs. This spring should be AWESOME there...I just can't see myself freediving/spearing in a field...Not really my idea of spearfishing really.

Personally, I'd want to get my "winning" fish in a true lake or river anyways - one with some depth available too.

If I made the rules...And I don't... :naughty I'd personally say "no" to field carp...But thats just MY opinion. I would want all fish speared in a Wisconsin NAMED lake and or river - Not in a floodplain. :naughty

Again though...I don't make "the rules." :t

I would have to agree- And say Lakes or rivers - that have Public access. Your right Fleshy it would be like shooting fish in a barrel. They have no place to go. Where the OUTLET has a load of carp- until you start shooting then they spread out and take off. So, I'd have to say NO to field Carp. Sorry.

so has anyone tried the rock tech yet i think if someone got a fish with a rock then they should win LOL

Well i hit the outlet today 5/8/08 i took the kids and wife with me so they could see what i do. i shot a total of 15 fish today so that puts me up to 26 fish for the year and also have went into the lead with the biggest rough fish so far at 42# 38.5in long rofl i sit there and fought with that fish then i was like wait rember what scott said let go let the fish fight itself :martial all in all it was a great day now i am ready to sit back and rest :friday

My Roughfish Total so far: 26

Largest Roughfish: 80.5 (weight 42# + length 38.5")

Thats a BIG Carp!!! Awesome job! Looks like she's full of eggs!

I wish there were more places down this way that had Buffallo carp mixed in with the regular carp...They do get big!

I guess Buffallo Carp are Native to Wisconsin...Not AS damaging to a water system as the Common Carp...But they are still a CARP! :martial

Again...GREAT job!

thanks everyone that fish was a fighter for sure :martial but see what happens when i listen to scott i start knocking fish out of the water :blackeye the first part of my dive today i wasnt even using my stringer i was so close to the shore i just threw them up there then i went a little farther out and then used my stringer found out that you dont want to put to many fish on a stringer cause some how my stringer came off my float i found the fish at the bottom at about 30' of water so i got them back but man that scared me not only would i have lost my fish but also lost whopps stringer but you guys are going to have to get out there with me sometime they are all over the place

Looks like I'm up to 32 after the 8 that I shot today. Biggest one that I got was 36 pounds.

I think we need to mandate that all fish were taken underwater and not by net- Ted (unirdna) has some idea that he can have his picture taken with the thousands of carp he helped net out of Lake Wingra this winter and have that count.

Jon

Shot 2 more at the Outlet today. I did have a few more- but wasn't able to get them on the stringer- they were BIG and pulled off the spear before I could get to them.

My Total for the 2008 season so far is 33 CARP. :martial

Been watching this thread from Australia, it is a great read! Well done guys, looks like a blast!

one day bro an ill be caught up with ya LOL and maybe pass ya up good job you guys i wish i could have been there but i have to work sometime so hope to get out again soon

Hey guys...Just got sat down to digest yet another fish dinner...Brought to you by JBL! rofl

Today I started out at Turtle Lake...6 feet of vis and tons of 10 inch Crappies...Took a few Crappies there. Got tired of the bad vis and smallish Crappies and went to Golden as originally planned...

The Carp were not around as thick as they were the other day...But man, I saw some pigs...Never could get a shot before they spooked off though! Some of 'em were somewhere close to 40ish pounds I believe. I was having a hard time judging sizes today... Some fish that I thought were kinda on the small side turned out to be bigger than I had originally thought - and vice versa too... I did have a monster Carp pull off the spear...Hit 'em near the tail...He was on for just a few seconds then pulled off! He, or should I say She was a "Brute"...Looked to be "plumb full" of eggs...

I did get a few decent Crappies...Biggest was 13 1/4"....I also nailed a 26" inch - 8 pound Dogfish or (Bowfin) which is considered a "rough" fish - So that puts my "rough" fish total at 3 so far!!! Woooo whoooo! :crutch A rough-fish with TEETH! Dude (dogfish) got one of my glove's snagged up pretty good too! Teeth like needles!

I'm probably only gonna shoot the BIGGEST carp I see , for the remainder of the year...Dotey's 42 pounder is gonna be around for a little while possibly.

JON'S Bluegill record has been beaten...But just BARELY! Today I nailed a couple of very NICE Bluegill's!!!!

The largest one was just at 10 5/8 inches (properly measured per DNR guidelines, tail pinched and from the tip pf the snout to the tip of pinched tail)

The pic's are'nt the best...My camera does'nt do close-ups that good and the angle kinda sucks too...A tiny bit of the longest portion of the tail (Bluegill) is UNDER the tape in case anyone wants to get scrutinous about it. His tail was a bit "worn" down at the top side of it. The bluegill is every bit of 10 5/8"...I've only gotten a few in my life that were bigger !!!! But I did see a few that were as big or bigger than my 10 5/8" but I just could'nt close the gap on 'em...Spookey bugger's when they get big! Awesome day to say the least!

MY "CONTEST" SCORES SO FAR!

Carp/Rough-fish total: 3 (2 Carp and 1 Dogfish)

Crappie: 13.5 inches - First place so far

Bluegill: 10.625 inches - First place so far!!!
