2008 Fish Spearing/Garbage removal contest entire year - Wisconsin

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
My "rough" fish total is at 12...:hmm

9 Carp - Mostly Buff's...

2 Dogfish - They just look mean!

1 Freshwater Drum - I've heard that some people eat them

Whopperhead knocked me outta the "Crappie" contest with his 13 3/4" from yesterday, But I still have the biggest Bluegill...so far anyway's...There are bigger ones where I got the 10 5/8" - I just can't seem to "reach" 'em with my gun or a polespear...Yet...Spooky critters! :martial

I really don't like shootin' 'Gill's off thier beds...But I may take one or two if they are absolute giants...Soon thats where they'll be. Please use restraint when taking the really BIG Bluegill's off of thier beds...One or two for a contest is one thing...But if you want Bluegill's to eat - There are PLENTY of 7-9 incher's for that...Let's let "most" of the BIG Mama's breed...Atleast while thier on thier beds. Protecting our "resources" is in the best interest of all and for the future of the "fishing" sports.

You only find REALLY big Bluegill's in a REALLY healthy fishery...Atleast in any sort of abundance anyways...

Today was awesome on Lake Mendota...As a bonus I got to meet BJPete too! Man...He makes some pretty awesome looking wetsuits! Complete with booties and gloves! That must take some patience!

Dont shoot any fish on their beds. Especially the big ones. You are making sure that the best of the genepool never reproduces. This is a surefire way to decrease the average size of fish in the lake you are hunting. Its just the way it works.

Fleshy, Hello, I don't think we've met. While I agree with your conservation efforts re: spawning fish, I thought you'd like to know that the mechanism for fish size can be a bit more complicated.

Here is some good reading.

PS. I have no intention of chasing after the carp-slaughter trophie, but I will put in my effort for those panfish records . Here are a few good ones from last year.

Holy cow that's a FAT Crappie !!! - Mendota? And them bull 'gills really have some prounounced heads hey! It's like "look at me girl's...I'm pumped up!" (the Bluegill's talkin') rofl"Yeah...You know you want me and my big lumpy head..." :t

I've seen them with even more pronounced lookin' heads too!...Almost like a big uni-brow or something! Brutes...I hope I see some this weekend!

Too bad you can't spear in Devil's lake anymore...I've seen some absolute hog Bluegill's in there! But that was about 10 year's ago now. Thats the FIRST time I thought to myself....Hmmmm? I wonder if you can legally spear panfish? I was there doing some snorkeling and freediving and lookin' for stuff on the bottom at the first drop off to about 25 feet or so. Actually ended up finding an antique toy "metal" rocking chair and an old silver 50 cent peice right next to each other...Kinda weird, but cool.. And a bunch of GARBAGE all over???? WHY????

The article was good reading too! Just a little complicated for "no real" answer at the end!

Add one more roughfish on the tally for me! Got another big Dogfish...Lake Geneva this time. Not to mention a bunch of Rockie's and a few Bullheads.

Sorry...No pics today...Unless Bglaeser post the pic he took of me with my fish.

Dotey...I would've loved to have gone to the outlet with ya but I already had plans buddy...Looks like you did just fine without me though!!!

My "rough" fish total is at 13...:hmm

9 Carp - Mostly Buff's...

3 Dogfish - They just look mean! ( No one else with a Dogfish ?)

1 Freshwater Drum -

I've taken home quite a few meals of Crappie's and 'Gills this spring already...Need to have me another fish fry soon!

And so far I still got the Big 'Gill...But I'm guessing That might not hold up for very long once they start spawning.

So like I said Im getting pretty good at chartering, and setting people up. Well today I sent the boys to a little hidey-hole of mine, but told them I got to keep the rewards. Ended up feeding a family of four + one of the two spearos, and we have enough meat in the freezer to do it again. Heres a picture of the guys. (Yes some fish are small, but it was the guy on the lefts first time out, so lets take it easy on the guy.)

Ended up getting in some spearing at Mendota Lake. Shot 9 Crappies, 2 Bluegills (one was 10 3/4"), 1 Perch (11"), 1 Common Carp, 1 Sucker.

This Bluegill takes the Lead for Largest Bluegill at 10.75"

I'm not sure what the Largest Perch is either- But I think I have it with 11" (won't last long either) I think it was slightly longer but I could keep it's mouth shut and take a pic at the same time- So, I pulled it forward on the Tape. So, I accept 11"

ILDiver & Jon both are witnesses to my Carp and Sucker- I didn't get a pic of them.

Largest Crappie: 14"
Largest Bluegill: 10.75"
Largest Perch: 11"
My Year Total so far: 78 ROUGHFISH. :martial (I'm Shooting for 100)

Nice 'Gill...And not too damaged...You might wanna mount that guy...But I bet it's already filletted! :headBut Mendota's got bigger ones yet!

I almost "snuck" out today but instead enjoyed the day hangin' around in the pool and the yard with my wife, the twins, & my little boy...:inlove

I'd like to get up there again (Mendota) before the vis is shot - But I'm also REALLY itchin' to get in Moose lake and also been hankerin' to go to my fave, Golden...I KNOW there are "contest" winning fish in there of several specie's...I just gotta catch up to 'em one of these days! :head

I've also recently "dug up" some info on a little known lake less than a half hour from here. Supposed to be CRYSTAL clear water year 'round and people tell me of 18 INCH CRAPPIES!!!!!!!!! And 12 INCH BLUEGILLS!!! I'll be going there next...I need to get BACK on "the board" with a big fish!!!!

Whoppster - Congrats on the lead with the Hog'gilla...What a slob!

Whopperhead, I have a submission for best shot. I don't have video or photo proof, but I waited and waited for the shot. There were about six crappie moving in and out of an area, I sat and waited for them to line up. Now, I've had a one shot two kill before, but it was unintentional at the outlet. This one I planned and waited out. They lined up and the shot went through the first ones eyes and the one behind got hit in the gills. I was a split second off of a double eye shot. That's it, that's my shot.

I was actually happy with my shooting, I put the shaft through the eyes on four of the crappie and several of the drum and one of the carp. I think I need to aim just back a little to start stoning them. I also need to switch to the sling. Jon was impressive with it and the quick reload looks awesome. Should be fun, I just have to get back up there, I'll work on that.

I only posted this because no one has really submitted a "best shot". I don't know how you can come up with a good way to judge it or record it. I now need to line up a three fish shot! Maybe a behind the back shot? The Statue of Liberty 360 shot? The Mark Labocetta look over a rock and fire the gun under the rock? Jon's HI sling kills? Maybe a 30lb carp with a pole spear?

Until you malakas get into Michigan, I'll wear the yellow jersey.

Holy crap! Nice day at the office Nice perch.

Did you take that pic with your 3rd hand? rofl

Must've been his "helmet cam" !!!!!! rofl

Nice perch...Used to catch 13 incher's on Mendota fairly often before "electronics" became the norm for icefishing. (Vexilar's)

Still...VERY nice Perch indeed! :martial

hehe

I'll leave it to your imaginations as to how I took the photo.

Thing is, when you land 8 perch - all over 11 inches, you get a nice looking bowl of fillets. I let a lot of 10 inch-ers swim on by. I'll get them next year. Crappies are wrapping it up, and moving to deeper water.

Waubesa is still holding....big gills and perch are thick by the boat launch. Hope to get in there Sunday for the last time this year. Eventually, I'll have to start crashing Scott's lakes .

Not bad, but not quite as good as the crappie kill we had last week. As soon as our crappies started getting "pelagic" again, I told my boys to go hunting, and we had enough meat for dinner... twice!

went to the outlet today 6/5.2008 got 20 more fish which puts me in the lead for right now vis was pretty bad as it was cloudy but rain held off and i was able to get the shots

rough fish total so far is 81 :martial

Dotey, you are the most blood-thirsty S.O.B. I've ever seen. The carp have a new nemesis. I love it!! I can see more than a few prego females on that truck. With the spawn in full swing, they will be especially stupid right now.

Keep on stickin'.

Thanks it was fun the vis was really bad but most of my shots were from the bottom up so made it a little better i guess i am blood thirsy rofl but now its time to relax for the day little tired :friday
