Advice on inflatables & outboards

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Mate I have had a 2.7 zodiac with a 6hp 2stroke on it was ok when cam to launching put 2 launching wheels on the back and pall u can do it on you own get in and go it wood do 6hp ok but if the sea pick up it not no fun getting back throw the surf just a 2foot is bad .
I got a 3'8 zodiac with a 25hp 2stroke on it do 35 nots good for surf and u can go any war but launching is a mishon the 25hp is about 35 kg and with all the kit u or over 65kg u or not paling that if u are sinking to slip ways all go but if u like to get on the beach is a job . U need to thick where u be launching then u can pick a rid fore u hope the helps

I did not look for boats during the winter (busy) but now the season seems to be off to a delayed start I looked around and just got a Bombard AX300 which is about 2.8 metres with a solid plastic floor , and will soon be getting a Yamaha 6hp plus other bits and bobs so should be able to reach many more blank spots with ease ! Will post up some pics once I am afloat ( without fish of course !) Anyone else recently got or changed boats / engines ? ... Terry..

I almost brought an AX300 earlier this year - beautiful design - the only downside I heard about it was that in chop, as the floor is so flat, it can be a little hard going & uncomfortable. In calm conditions, it should be a great! The only reason I didn't buy it was that it was only rated for 10hp and I have a 15hp. Let us know how you get on with it!

I brought a Mercury / Quicksilver 340 a couple of months back - I took it out a couple of weeks back - it absolutely flies with 2 people + gear but is shockingly bad with 4 people + gear! A 3 mile trip against the wind and Spring tide was one of the most miserable of my life! I think it took about 40 minutes - we had a hell of a lot of gear with us and maybe that big anchor and chain I found while diving had something to do with it! As a 2 man boat though, it's perfect.

Despite being unglamorous, one of the best aspects of Bros boat were the added launch wheels! I can't stress how much they made our lives easier, it would've been a mega faff without them!

Saying that mate, it was still harder that I'd thought moving it around - the wheels do need some more air in them though!

I got a zodiac 3.8 with a 2stroke 25hp it's fast but heavy when fall off gear I got rid off laurning wheels and got 3 lengths off clip tower scaffold put it in a H and cut the ends off put 4 big fat wheel barrow wheels on the end u can push it with one hand up and dawn beach and 2 clip in the car it go

Nice looking boat there Broseidon , bigger is better in many ways but I need something I can manage alone . I think if you had a Bombard AX 300 you would not get 4 people and gear as well in it !! I have just made and fitted some transom wheels for launching and bought a new Yamaha 6 hp short shaft motor so should be all at sea in a few days . On another note ,related to earlier discussion on this thread 2 stroke v 4 stroke , the 4 stroke is definately more economical , but servicing is costly in comparison to 2 stroke so over a year depending on usage there is probably not a great deal of difference

... My new 3.4 been in the garage 5 years now without seeing the sea. Spoilt now I have the C-ski
Shiny1, can you tell us more about your C-ski? Any images?

Its a great boat for its size. Cheap to run with a 40hp Yamaha 4 stroke. Normal trip from Sutton Harbour Plymouth to the Eddystone. Roughly 12 miles each way and all day fishing on my own in normal seas cost about £21.00 in fuel and I don't hold back on the throttle.
I have taken 3 spearos plus myself out to inshore marks. Better suited to 3 guys total. I dive 95% on my own so plenty of space for fish!!
Its capable of getting you home if it blows up rough. Its got a very smooth ride. Only down side it can be a wet ride in certain seas but I fish this boat all year around, fishing off shore for bass in January/February which is a good test in my book. I have also slept in the fish hatch overnight rather than make a 12 mile run home a few hours after dark then a return trip to get back out before sunrise. I use the boat commercial for rod n line lure fishing for bass.
On another note I speared my first Monk fish on Thursday. No monster but tasted very nice. Taken from a shore dive in about 9m while looking for plaice.

That's the name it comes under down the fish quay if you put it in the auction.

I was having a look at C-Skis last week Shiny funnily enough as they look like a brilliant vessel! It appears that spearo.co.uk no longer import them anymore as I am sure they did a few years back?

Dave T only brought 3 in together in one container. Shipping cost can work out expensive if bringing one over at a time. Now is the time to buy one with a good exchange rate. But getting 3 people together who would share the shipping cost would be a difficult task.

It's a lovely craft shiny - does it come with the steering kit?

Did I also read somewhere that you had the metal bars on the front and back specially made?

It came with steering helm and wheel plus the cables. You can have extras added. I had the 2 fuel cans that fit under the deck in a forward hatch. The stainless steel pulpit came with it. I had the roll bar/a frame made here in the UK for £120.

Got my Bombard on the water yesterday, Boating is completely new to me so went out on estuary at high tide , for a try out ,many new things to think about and learn but no problems !! Engine ( 6hp ) is brand new so needs to be run in, max 1/2 throttle for first hour , however 1/2 throttle does not quite get it up on the plane , instead it just tilts a lot with a big wash behind so just pottered around for a while and then got it on to plane on just over 1/2 throttle if I sat as far forward as possible ( need extended tiller ) and once on plane seemed quick ( very... compared to normal kayak pace !) Hopefully many happy days ahead .. as I have the summer off !!
