AIDA DEPTH WC 2009 in the Bahamas.

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
I must correct that the 102 CWT record of Carlos was set on a competition at Cyprus, not a "tailor made" competition

Ok, thanks for correcting me. This was also the first official result over 100m, and obviously one of the great dives in history. What kind of comp was this?

I just edited. Damn internet send my things twice. That was BIOS Cyprus one of the bigger freediving competitions of all times.

Thanks, for that, fpernett! And this was June 2004, so I am not sure if this qualifies for "quite some time" (5 1/2 years ago).

That was in 2004 on the Bios Freeology event , probably the biggest event ever (or close to). Was also my first ever depth competition and where I met Carlos.
I will never forget this world record, because as I was face down snorkel breathing for my 33m CW dive I could see Carlos go down and up the line in 50+m visibility water doing his WR 102m dive.
But then the most amazing hapened, while he was in the water celebrating his dive with a big 102m banner , he took the time to pause , pass me and wish me good luck on my dive with a big fat handshake.
I felt so boosted by this that I almost broke the bottom plate.
At the same great event lotta Ericson set a static WR and Ant Williams made his debut.
This whole competition oozed of the real freediving spirit where big worldrecord divers where cheering for people doing 15m CW dives.

If you are interested in a bit freediving history , you can see some pictures from that event here and my log of the event here

Remember that he was very sick for a long time.

Thanks for sharing that, GlennV.

fpernett: I was just thinking about my own phrase in my previous post, which was meant in a general way:

it's only Nitsch among the men who has been able to pull off a World Record in a big comp for quite some time now.

Another cool thing I remember from this legendary competition is (besides the salvage rig from mad max or blade runner , see pictures) that the sponsors where testing underwater ROV's in the pool . So while we were doing our laps these little yellow robots where flying around filming you from all sides and matching your speed. VERY COOL STUFF. Unfortunately they where not used during the comp proper due to technical problems and also a large distracting factor for the competitors. But they filmed every competitors performance (with standard equipement) nevertheless and brought out a post event DVD with these fantastic images.
Unfortunately after the comp Howards (the organiser) company went belly up

Hello all!

Now 1.58 AM in Moscow, and I'm very glad to go to bed after looking at such good results

Congrate all So many national records!!!

And new national records by Alexey Molchanov

Молодец!

For the CWT final I'm picking Herbert to be up around the 120m mark but not a WR; Will 2nd with something in the high teens, then Alexei in the low teens and Carlos close behind.

I hope Will W. doesn't continue in his vein of nominating high in hopes of having an exceptional dive. I know what it's like though - being so close to WR performances that it always seems the only option is to stretch the extra few metres.

I compiled the two men's qualifications to see how the overall ranking looks. The first four places are still quite depending on the finals, but down from the 5th place it is more or less decided. Some small shifts may happen, but not so many. Just have a look at it yourself. The red marked number are of those in finals, meaning they can still increase.

During the finals we will create a live link:
Me-walkie talkie - Brittany - phone - Simon - internet - you.

I will try to include details aswell as results.

Clarification. RB is delivered on a platform by a experienced ER doctor if needed. Why risking doing something like that in water?
O2 is moved 20 meters closer and on the platform. There are scenarios where a 30 second delay of O2 delivery can be, well, bad. (Deep BO, Long surface BO + severe squeeze (impaired O2 uptake even if breathing).

I think this might be the most supervised (athlete surveillance) I have ssen so far.

Delay time right now totally amounts to 87 secs for top times, and 2.47 for meeting times

PS . Tomorrow 17 national record attempts

1.3 points for CNF please.

1.3 points for CNF please.

Well, I'd like to do it, but those are the points from the official table. Beyond and over that, everyone is free to use what coefficient he prefers

I just did also a preliminary country ranking. On the left side, results summed for all competitors, on the right side with average points per competitor. Sorry, I did the charts for men only. Perhaps someone else can sum the women results. There will be certainly still some changes after the finals, but the 1st position of France (ranked by total points), is apparently clearly unshakable.

@ Trux, the second table, I thought France have 3 Men competing? In that case they have 165 points each, rocketing them to 3rd place.

@ seb, Well he's getting a record number of Nordic Deep points! 84.5
WT would have 110,5 ND points.

How much of difference do you think Deans blue hole offers you over Gullemans' Fjord - Sweden?

Ok, I need to dive in bed Sleep well!

No, Kars, France had 4 men - Patrick, Morgan, Guillaume, and Christian. Unfortunatelly Patrick had a BO in CWT, and did not compete in CNF. But still, he was there to compete and counts just like all the other competitors with zero points. On the other hand, it is true Patrick is a Corse (from Corsica), so we could bar him as a separatist, and improve so the score of France. I'll have to suggest it to AIDA France.

Depends on dive strategy. Ona sunny day, with no jellyfish - a no warm up kind of person could do Deans Blue hole + 10% Since the chill in the deep will give a better dive response.

But for me, under my current dive strategy - I could maybe do 60 in Gullmaren on a good day, maybe even more if I can keep warm right up to the dive.
