Well we are in the year of team world championship... I hope all of the strongest teams will be there with the strongest divers, to celebrate 20th anniversary of AIDA.

Have some questions do, what will be the schedule of the disciplines? CWT-STA-DYN or some other order? How many people can be in one team? What is the rule for mixed teams?

Would like to participate in Goran's hope for a good comp.
Have a few questions of my own:
- what is the registration schedule?
- is there a place for divers who haven't got a team? are there individual comp days? can an individual participate?

Cheers,
Eran

Eran, this is a national team competition, so only national teams can participate. You have to contact your national AIDA for the qualification conditions. The individual championship will take place next year.

Thanks, I am aware of the team comp, but was wandering if there is a solutions for other athletes, I guess not.

Cheers,

Eran

What exactly do you mean, Eran? A solution for freedivers from a country without a national AIDA branch, or for those who are refused by their national AIDA?

One example that comes to mind, is a single female diver, with not enough female divers to form a national team, another example, might be divers number 4,5 in line for the team, can they participate, for individual ranking?
I guess from your reply, the answer is no...
cheers,

Eran

As I wrote, this is really a team championship, so only teams compete. For ranking individual performances there are over a hundred of other competitions each year, or the individual WC in 2013.

Each nation can send 3+1 alternate athletes for each gender. If a nation does not have enough competitors for both genders, they can send a mixed team. A team must consist of at least two competitors. This is from the rules:
3.3.4.1
In International Team Championships, the number of competing athletes is fixed to three athletes plus one alternate per sex from each nation, but this number can be increased in special occasions following a decision made by AIDA International. A team must consist of at least two athletes. Mixed teams are welcomed if the country is not fielding a men or women’s team separately.

So if you are more than 2x(3+1) in your nation who want to participate, contact AIDA International and make a request for increasing the size of teams. If AIDA receives numerous such requests, they may consider raising the limit. But frankly told, I do not believe there will be many demands, so do not really consider it a serious possibility.

The official accommodation is available only from 8th to 16th, but since the Czech teams come before 8th, to train on the site a bit before the championship, we needed some inexpensive lodging for the week from 1st to 8th.

I did not find any camping in the close neighborhood, and all cheaper hotels I contacted were booked out, so I checked B&B possibilities and found a villa in Nice with four rooms for the 11 members of our team. It even has a swimming pool, where they can train statics (and the weaker individuals also dynamics and depth). The cost is amazing and incomparable to any other offer (including the official lodging during the WC) - the cost per person and night is just over 9€!

I had two other positive replies from other owners, who both still have villas for up to 11 persons available for this dates. The cost is higher, but still interesting - between 45€ to 55€ per person and night (including breakfast and in big luxury, with a swimming pool too). So if anyone still needs accommodation for the week before the WC, contact me by PM and I pass you the contact information, or can call the owners to book it for you.

i had seen in the website a form to register 3 athletes and 3 substitutes for each gender but now I only see a pre-registration where you simple say who many people is going to be there (pre-registration). Maybe the final list of athletes can be given later.

The part that surprised me the most was regarding safety, that french law says that the organizers have to be in charge of safety. I suppose that many divers would prefer to have their own safety divers as first option and anyone form the organization would be welcome as additional safety. if you get a disqualification by the touch of a safety who you don't know must be frustrating.

Hi Goran,

The schedule of the competition is the same that you wrote. This year, the team is 3 athlets and 2 substitutes. And it seems to me that if you are in a mixed team, your team is considered like a male team.

Just want to poke my nose in here and say that I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys this year at my first time at World's! Should be tons of fun.

do someone knows hot the teams that have more than 3 competitors are scored? Lets say you have 3+1 male team, so everyone dives and at the end top 3 competitors are scored, or how? Tnx

So whats that +1 or +2 all about??? Why will anyone go there with a 3 +something team if only 3 people can dive?

In cas of injury , one of the titular can be remplaced
That's what I understood

Well that just dont have a sense... lets say +1 guy is great in dyn and sta and I am great at cwt, so I will dive the first day than fake a injury.. and be replaced with another guy that will do other disciplines much better... I dont think thats the right way to go.

Anyway can you found out for sure? So we know at what we are standing for sure...?

There are a lot of freediving injuries that can not be verified Dave, it dos not have to be a broken leg. And I kinda doubt there will be a MRI, CAT scan and X-ray machine on the site with 6 specialist to interpret the results.
