AIDA WCh 2007, Maribor

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Great opening ceremony tonight, we got paraded around town with flags, country signs and a drummer marching us up the main street with a police escort. Some nice speeches from Sebastian Naslund, Bill Stromberg, Sandi Bitenc and the deputy mayor of Maribor, then for team captains it was off to a VIP do in a wine cellar nearby - very civilised.

Dynamic tomorrow... judging by some of the training and looking at the athletes there will be some seriously good freediving to see.

Cheers,
Ben

Sandi,

Will you update the results in real time online (like they did in Vancouver ) ?
That would be cool for the people at home to follow what is happening.
I know you have wireless internet in the pool so should be possible (if you have the resources to spare...)

Good luck and may everything work like a charm for you ....

Sandi and his team are doing an excellent job! You can expect near real time updating of the result lists!

Heaps of photos uploaded to Send Havfruerne til VM,
which in english means "send the mermaids to WC".
Which was a good idea since Eva ended up in the dyn finals with a NR dive of 156 (now being side by sidewith her dearest competitor Elizabeth (NO) who made an identical dive.

The women having improved generally in in Dyn +17% which is better than the men (compared to renens)

I believe that Per Westin will think twice before announce his performances, he only announced 1 mtr !!! he could have won the competition...if this was the final

The publicity (ie. website) has indeed been the best I think we've seen so far. Following the results in almost real time was indeed cool. Great job!

I expected the dynamic level to have gone up, but not really this much! 150 was not enough for A-final in women, in Renens I think only 3 went beyond 150.

Per opened the competition nicely with his "shock and awe" performance. I suspect his performance is in a way the reason for such a high BO count. I wouldn't pe surprsied if that was intentional, ie. scare the s**t out of the competitors People simply went "oh my god, you need 200m+ to get to the finals" - which in the end was not far from the truth. But what a nice dive, congratulations for Per on joining the 200 club! The nice thing is that the level has gone up so much that there is not really anyone who can "hold back" in the qualifying - which I also thing is partly the reason for the high DQ rate.

I bet a lot of people are a beating them selves up for not announcing a "real" ap - not very pleasant loosing your spot in the finals for that. If you end a dive near a wall, it's just a matter of probablities that alot of competitors will be within a few meters or exactly the same distance. You want to keep your AP close to your RP in that case. Also, if you're competing seriously, never end the performance on the wall. Just one push with your hand will set you apart from dozens of divers.

Not such a good day for Finland. I feel really bad for Lauri, what a nice dive, but rules are rules and that's why training the surfacing is just as important as any other aspect of the dive.

Can't see any results yet. Webpage isn't updated like dynamics yesterday.

Hmm had to do with Vista browser update crap or something. On my other computer I now see the results coming in.

Great being able to watch the results come in without a huge delay. Damn jealous I'm not there competing at the moment!

Really proud of our clubmate, Kathryn McPhee's 5.22 - looks like that will just nudge her into the statics A final - great effort!

So pleased that the organisation side of things is looking smooth.

Go freedivers!

So 7 minutes flat to get into the men's A final and 5.23 for the woman's A final.

Not quite as challenging as I would have expected, but still a very high standard.

Carlos Coste did well in his first world championship since his accident last year. He is in ninth place for the DYN final, with 178 meters, and expects to improve that in the final today. It has been a remarkable recovery for him. The first nine qualifiers:
1.- Stig Severinsen (Denmark) 201m
2.- Per Westin (Sweden) 200m
3.- William Winram (Can) 193m
4.- Mitja Stamfer (Slov) 187m
5.- Henning Larsen (Denmark) 186m
6.- Alexey Molchanov (Rus) 182m
7.- Weine Gustavsson (Sweden) 182m
8.- Christian Maldame (France) 179m
9.- Carlos Coste (Ven) 178m

Hmm, bit quiet in here today... is no-one interested in the 5 static National records and the 11 Dynamic National records and the Women's Dynamic World Record?

Or the armed holdup at the local supermarket while freedivers were shopping?

It's all happening here in Maribor.....

benny tell us tell us! we want to know! especially about the hold up..
good luck to all!!!!
