If this rubbing on the stop ring due to relative tilt between the shaft and stop ring is responsible for increasing muzzle loading effort then an improvement for "Cyrano" users would be for the metal stop ring to be made integral with the plastic line slide instead of just sitting loose on the shaft behind it. A new metal stop ring with a forward tubular extension (top hat shape) could be inserted into a matching short bore in the rear of the existing plastic line slide, they just need to be mechanically bonded together so that they do not tilt on the shaft.
I was just examining my "Cyrano" stop ring with a jewellers' loupe, at one end it has a tiny internal lip where the parting tool cut if off when it was manufactured, the other end is OK. I now think that this tiny lip has contributed to some of the scratches on the stock shaft, I had previously thought that the scratches were all due to trapped sand particles. I checked another "Cyrano" stop ring and each end of the bore through the stop ring has been bevelled, so no internal lip on that one. What made me check was that some of the shaft scratches did not run in a linear fashion, but stayed parallel to each other as they progressed down the shaft, indicating that they had been created at exactly the same time. The stock shafts are something that Mares should replace if they want to remain at the top of the pneumatic speargun pecking order, spring stainless steel shafts should be standard fitment, not extras. Better quality standard spear tips would also be welcome.
Theres a pretty strong pneumo modding community. I wish I could find my friend Roland's email addy - he modded his cyranos, greatly improving all aspects of performance. He had an 850 here along with his little russian gun and the mono made this ripping sound in the water when he fired it. I think he had maybe 3 - 4 meters of line and the spear just snapped right out to the end of it. I know he took out the power regulator and I think may have used synthetic lube and silicone rings. Barrel was still wet though.
Popgun Pete - my guess is you probably know all the tricks already.
This could be an another improvement, maybe more simple.
Hey, i just bought a used Airbalete 90, but i have no idea how many times i have to pump it, it has 200 hand made pumps in it, but it still seems soft, how many times do i need to give it to achieve 30 bar?
Sincerly Chris
