Airbalete 110

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Seemed to be easier to load Cyrano with microspeed slider on the shaft then with regular ring. But I would not advice using it with Cyrano's muzzle without modification.

If this rubbing on the stop ring due to relative tilt between the shaft and stop ring is responsible for increasing muzzle loading effort then an improvement for "Cyrano" users would be for the metal stop ring to be made integral with the plastic line slide instead of just sitting loose on the shaft behind it. A new metal stop ring with a forward tubular extension (top hat shape) could be inserted into a matching short bore in the rear of the existing plastic line slide, they just need to be mechanically bonded together so that they do not tilt on the shaft.

I was just examining my "Cyrano" stop ring with a jewellers' loupe, at one end it has a tiny internal lip where the parting tool cut if off when it was manufactured, the other end is OK. I now think that this tiny lip has contributed to some of the scratches on the stock shaft, I had previously thought that the scratches were all due to trapped sand particles. I checked another "Cyrano" stop ring and each end of the bore through the stop ring has been bevelled, so no internal lip on that one. What made me check was that some of the shaft scratches did not run in a linear fashion, but stayed parallel to each other as they progressed down the shaft, indicating that they had been created at exactly the same time. The stock shafts are something that Mares should replace if they want to remain at the top of the pneumatic speargun pecking order, spring stainless steel shafts should be standard fitment, not extras. Better quality standard spear tips would also be welcome.

pete i definately agree with you on the part about the shafts and tips! they seem to bend pretty easy in a variety of situations. loading, fish on or just hitting a hard surface.

This could be an another improvement, maybe more simple.

Theres a pretty strong pneumo modding community. I wish I could find my friend Roland's email addy - he modded his cyranos, greatly improving all aspects of performance. He had an 850 here along with his little russian gun and the mono made this ripping sound in the water when he fired it. I think he had maybe 3 - 4 meters of line and the spear just snapped right out to the end of it. I know he took out the power regulator and I think may have used synthetic lube and silicone rings. Barrel was still wet though.

Popgun Pete - my guess is you probably know all the tricks already.

Using synthetic lube and silicone rings might be good. Some other modifications like taking out the power regulator are not necessary with vacuum barrel.

NASA could build us a speargun and some of us guys here would have it modded for personal use with improvements in about a week.

I for one love the gunsmithing and mechanical dreams, as they are just one part of the personal journey. Here's to the hunt:fridaybe it knowledge or game.

Cheers, Don

More precise drawing, with real dimensions of the shaft OD, ring, tip of the muzzle.

Hello Friends,
I had some problems with my airbalete 100 which are fixed now.
The only one I didn’t yet is the aiming . I can’t shoot fish which is more the 3 meter from spear tip ( fish usually about 0.5 -2 kgs) .
I am intending to cut one Rob Allen spear ( 6.6 mm) to 120 cm ( original one is 7mm /105 cm) , suppose that this additional length will help for aiming and leaving the balance not changed significantly .
Will be happy to hear someone who tried similar set-up .
B/Rgds
Martin

Have you tried some underwater target practice to see where the spear is going?

I have tied.
I think that airbalete is not much better for aiming compared to other pneumatics .
The reasons are that the side line is not straight and the top line also due to specific shape of the body . I am trying to hit target with 3-4 cm high ( fish about 0.5 kg) which is not so easy on 4 meters.
I have more then 500 shots ( destroyed 2 sliders) and didn’t not come to needed precision , this is the reason I am changing the spear and will add a vacuum kit also J J

Hi Martinbar74, I have a removed line latch spring with a poly insert to gently return the line release. I have the 110 and find I can target well by only looking at the target just off the top of the tank with the stock shaft. So far I've found it easy to point and shoot to the end of two wrap loops.
Let me posted on the longer shaft overhang. Other than the Bonita I have taken one small local White Sea Bass (20lb) and a half a dozen Calico in the 5 to 7 lb range.

Cheers, Don

After twenty years of searching and a friend in Florida, Airbalete gets a big brother: the 140 cm Mares Bazooka model 5301. Shoots a 10mm shaft from over-sized components, features three powers. Look for a separate thread in a few days.

Cheers Don

Hey, i just bought a used Airbalete 90, but i have no idea how many times i have to pump it, it has 200 hand made pumps in it, but it still seems soft, how many times do i need to give it to achieve 30 bar?
Sincerly Chris

Put the gun on the scale and tray to load the shaft into the gun:
number of kg = number of bar (for 11 mm piston, Airbalete, Cyrano, Spark..)

With a empty barrel,
From the owners manual.
For the Airbalete 90cm;

10Atm =280 pumps
15Atm =430 p
20 Atn =620p
25 Atm =830p
30Atm =1050p
MAX is 30Atm
