I just started using my 5 mil elios - now that the water temp is dropping again. First suit I bought - three years old now it's been through a couple of winters (I dove all winter one year with it - 36F water temps), springs, falls etc. Not even a frayed thread.
I've got mixed feelings about both the Diveskin and the Elios suits. I have been using both over the last few years and both have their good points as well as faults. I find that the tailoring on the Elios in general is better but after a summers worth of use and my new 5mm suit is an average of 3mm thick and the backs of the knees and inside of the elbows are paper thin. However the knees are holding up better to the grief that I give them than the Diveskin. Also because of the suits flexibility I have found water coming in through the hood and filling up around my chest and causing me to get cold, all in all it's the crappiest jacket I have ever worn! The diveskin is far less flexible but after 3 hard years of use is still 5mm thick and still warm. Despite its stiffer neoprene it is still a very comfortable suit but the stiffness does cause extra strain on the seams which have needed attention once. The worst joint on the whole suit is the crotch which is a bit of a weak spot compared to the way Elios put theirs together.
This is just my opinion and suited to me only but my ideal suit would be Elios trousers and a Diveskin jacket but realistically I'm getting another diveskin next time

Whoah Pastor! What do you do to your suits! My elios 5 mil is still in great shape after a couple of years of 2-3 dives per week year round. Also, what grade neoprene did you get on your elios? Coatings etc? Mine's black shadow with new black in/superstretch nylon out. I routinely climb around on rocks and stuff in it.

My suits are looked after, I use very dilute hair conditioner to get in and after use wash it with fresh water and dry inside and out. both suits are hung on padded hangers with no folds. The suit is one of their new super stretch neoprenes with the abstract green camo the name of which escapes me off the top of my head but it is one of their cheaper suits I believe (it was a freebie). It has been resilient to harsh treatment on the rocks, I usually hole my knees within a season as Tecdave will confirm but this one is holding on fine. Tear resistance has been good too, I managed to get caught up on my shaft tip jumping out of the boat the very first time I used it, I decided not to try and repair the hole as I thought it would be a good test but to this day that hole hasn't got any bigger.
I will concede that the better quality neoprenes will hold out better than the one I have but at the same (ish) price as a Diveskin it looses out, now if the change the neoprene to the same grade as Spiros uses then it would be a winner.

Yamamato 45 - which is super soft and stretchy - is actually more expensive - but I think it doesn't last as long. My suit is Heiwa - and that seems to be the stuff to get. I've heard that Diveskin uses a taiwanese neoprene which is comparable to heiwa - but less expensive.
Is it possible you're in the water so much you've developed scales without noticing, and that these are abrading the neoprene?
