B.C. Deeper Blue Trip 2009

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Jenny it's all-welcome. My girlfriend is not a spearo and she took some pics this year.
In any case I wont be organising this again as it's tons of work.
I will, however, finally be doing a trip to the Charlottes for 2 weeks in September 2010. I've been talked out of it a few times to accomodate the Port Hardy trip, but not again.
The Charlottes will be an adventure- we're going to do some serious exploring, including the wild west coast of the islands up there.
If you're interested stay in touch!

A few of us will certainly be out to Van Island a few times too. We hooked up with a good guy with a Zodiac out of Nanaimo who is spearo and freediver friendly.
Warmly,
Erik.

Yeah it's off-season right now, especially inland here with the lakes frozen, but in the Spring we'll all be back at it. I always make a big noise before I come out there, hoping to meet other divers. That's as important as the diving to me- meeting and sharing experiences and stories :)

were in ocean year round so if u get tired of frozen lakes we have the technology to kill some fish

  • Snorkel
Gear I need:

  • Everything else!
Do you guys ever feel like finding freediving gear in this city is like going on a scavanger hunt? I went to Rowands reef today to get a snorkel and ask about weight. The guy there said they sold their last elastic weight belt just a week ago and won't get more in for a few weeks more. I didn't even really want a knife but there so cheap at MEC so I figured, why not?

As soon as I get some fins I'll be ready to get in the ocean (I'll rent a suite and weight from IDC if I have too).

Nick you'll need to get online for proper gear. Really you'll be lucky to find any good gear or advice in a store there (or here). The odd thing you might luck out on. Scuba wetsuits and fins SUCK for freediving but they'll get you started if your a keener. There are a fair few freedivers in Van who'd help you out I'm sure. Post up a thread. Check the DB Shop too- connects to a wicked store in Spain with fast service and very good prices.

nick i have a extra suit you can borrow if it fits my dive buddy has some extra weight check out p.f.i they have capt nemo power fins get some open cell gloves and socks and the ocean is seriously cold right now

Wow Gabe, fabulous video. Also looks like you are getting some use out of the masks.

Connor

What a rad video dude.... AWESOME!!!! That dying Salmon that was hanging with you was pretty crazy..what a thing to experience.. If i was a salmon, id be a virgin for life!!! :blackeye

Yes indeed Connor. As far as I am concerned the Falco is the best. I recently gifted one to my present gal ;) Its great to give something as profoundly simple yet experience-expanding as a mask like this. SO worth the money spent to open someone's u/w eyes.
