Blood shift during static?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
My normal circulation is not too bad, my feet and hands do get cold, but not much more than other people. My cold tolerance is very bad. I start shivering very easily, in fact I started a thread about this.
[ame="http://forums.deeperblue.net/showthread.php?t=52821"]How can I increase resistance to the cold?[/ame]

It has improved since then, but it remains a problem. It is as if I don't generate enough heat, so in a cold environment the only way I can keep warm is by constant shivering.

I have people in my family that tend to loose their color when they get cold and wet. They do not need extreme cold just when they loose SOME heat this tends to happen. I guess heatloss is a big reason for vasoconstriction aswell. Lying in a warm pool you tend to loose heat even if you wear a suit. This might be the reason. I do not have this problem since i find pools hot most of the time. Maybe it has something to do with cold sensitivity like many others have said.

However today i did about one hour of open water diving in four degree-water....
....this had the same effect on my toes. No colour at all and i could not feel my feet for quite a while. I do NOT blame ny "good" dive reflex. No heat+no visibility=No deep dives. Actually the visibility was less than one meter.

That doesn't sound good. I think that can lead to permanent damage. Maybe socks would help?

As long as you get your heat back fairly quick I think it is ok. A lot of clothes is a must after leaving the water.

Interesting thread though. I think that the vasoconstriction that comes from cold gets much bigger if you combine it with apnea and dive response. This is why i think a max static should be done in cold water. If you dont start shivering to much the cold may be beneficial. This is why i want to combine the benefits of buoyancy (and body position) that comes with a suit with the cold that comes from wearing no suit.
