Hi All,

My Fiance is pregnant and we are expecting our first - a little boy to arrive around the 9th August, I have been looking into boy names with an ocean/sea meaning.

Initially i found one that suited in 'Morgan' but it is has been used by one of her friends for her new baby! Much dismayed as I loved this name, the search is now on.

Feel free to chip in with some ideas please....

P.S Can't use Dylan as my nephew has this name!

Cheers

Ryan

Hi,
Congratulations on your baby:)
Two names spring to mind.
"Adrian" is quite a common name which relates to the Adriatic sea (quite far-fetched i know!) or alternatively, if you are feeling more "out-there" you could name him Poseidon!(the latter is a joke and I strongly recommend that you do not call your child Poseidon. I can only imagine the hard time he would get at school!)

Sorry for not being much help and good luck!
Antoine.

A not so serious suggestion:

Nemo ;)

But you can also take the names of famous freedivers, Umberto, Tanya, William, Herbert, Sebastien, etc. !

what about: Alamar(to the sea), Delmar(from the sea), Dylan(son of the sea), Edmar (wealthy sea)

EdmarTunny has a ring to it no?(forgot that Dylan was already used)

non serious suggestions:
Shark, Surf or Rip

think of it this way, would you mess with a kid named Shark? :D

How about "Ocean?"

I know a lifeguard who named his two kids "Ocean" and "Summer."

Yep, the boy is named ocean and the girl, summer.

Exactly like Baywatch.

Thanks so far guys and girls keep em' coming!

I do like Ocean & Kai but it's getting them past the Missus...

Cheers

Have her involved finding a ocean referring name for your child.

You can also share and ask her to think of the boys name, and you do the girl's name.

two of my three boys have ocean names:
Maren (ocean in Spanish is "mar") watch out though as I since heard that its a girls name in Germany ;)
Jack (Jacques Mayol, first freediver to 100m)

i also quite liked Calypso (Cousteau's famous craft) but as in all ships names, it is indeed girly

Jacques as in Cousteau would be a classic, in Guernsey virtually every small boat fisherman is called Pierre or Niko!

it is a female name in Greek.

The original woman named Calypso was a Nereid, or sea-nymph, who captured Odysseus and tried to convince him to marry her.

Already doing that mate, it is going to be a boy though, she doesn't like Ocean and Kai is Wayne Rooney's sons name! - So that's a no no too!

This is why I have put it to the masses here on DepperBlue, just to see if there was a couple we might like or have completely missed...

Apparently one can have many names, so why just give him one?

Actually giving him many names offers him a choice of which he likes most!

Also if these names begin with Title letters, people may give him a better wage. ;)

Acula (shark in Russian)
Martin (Martin Stepanec, close to Marine too)

Omar is another popular name it means The ocean.

and it doesnt sound half bad in english (almost homer)
