British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
So, the latest is I have no underwater housing for my camera! I just received my Ikelite housing in time for the trip a couple weeks back, but found out it is not satisfactory in its current form and will be either be having arranged a new one sent or returning it for a refund, which I won't know until next week however. This means no housing for the trip, meaning no underwater photography for me! Some of you who have seen my website or know my interest in underwater marine life, may understand what a blow this is to my plans for the trip.

If there is a sudden explosive roar when you all arrive to Telegraph Cove, do not be alarmed... it is not another grizzly bear, just a Tyler releasing his frustrations at Murphy! If you don't hear the roar, it is most likely because Murphy took out my car and I have not arrived yet. Poor town where this occurs will think an earthquake struck.

Anyhow, anybody have experience with decent MiniDV camcorders? I am looking to pick one up for the trip. I wish it to have manual focus and manual exposure. It seems that is too much to ask for from video housing however, unless you get into the $3000 USD range.

On the topic of Eric's F1's that he's bringing along... that's quite an oportunity! I had the chance to demo one (William Trubridge's) while in the Bahamas a bit ago and was blown away by the sheer volume of information that is tracked. Not to mention the level of customizability...(is that a word??) I love my D3, but I know an F1 is in my future somewhere... :inlove It's just tough to explain to my wife why I can't afford a new car (the '86 corolla is aparently getin' old or something  ) but still seem to be able to afford freediving gear :rcard :naughty

Once again, I want to wish all of you the very best of times! Wish like crazy I could be there... the Island's got some of the very best diving in the world.

Tyler... bummer man! That totally sucks. Wish I could get ahold of those #$%&@'s :martial Here's hopin' you get your gear back somehow... and the car of course!

Cheers all,
Aaron

final preparations.... this is gonna be fun!!!!!!!!!

:)

(Hey Aaron! How goes it?)

See you all soon.

Pete

I'm back. Lots of good stories to tell including a big fish caught by Tylerz yesterday. Erik couldn't make it! :( What happened, my friend? Hope you are feeling better!

DB article coming up pronto. LOTS of photos and video taken as well by all on the trip.

Pete

Pete,

Cool! Glad people had fun. Send me the photos and i'll create a gallery on the DB Gallery for people to upload.

BTW - since Erik didn't make it does that mean all the DB Tee's and goodies I sent out didn't make it either?

Feign brought the DB goodies from Alberta in a lengthy 20+ hour solo drive with thelma and louise overtones.

Keep in mind that most of the participants are still at Telegraph cove diving and fishing.... some until the 24th, others until the 27th.

Many stories to tell....

Stunning!
We're currently at the Ramada in Vancouver - just had a mind-blowing japanese meal - but anyway. Yesterday was our last day - crystal blue sky and temps around 20c (air) Claire and I had some great last day dives - with various anemones etc. Some nice shots of some of the brighter critters and a good movie of those black rockfish in the heavy current. Managed to lodge myself in down there and the rockfish seemed to want to move into the eddys I was creating.

Anyway - we have hundreds of pictures - I can host a practically infinite amount of full-sized images and movies on my imageevent site - I'll make passwords available to anyone who wants to up or download. Fine with me if SW wants to go through and grab the gooviest for a DB Gallery - Or I can upload direct.

Just a checkin till I get back and start image processing - but that was Fantastic! What a great bunch of people!!

Don't tell me it was so cold it was snowing underwater! :D

What an incredible trip! Thanks to all for the wonderful time, hospitality, stories, excellent cooking, and great diving companionship. I must say you were all incredibly durable, especially Jim from Florida, who handled our suprisingly cold water temperatures (9-11 degrees celcius) with little show of difficulty, if any.

I will have lots more to say I am certain over the next few days, but for now I just wanted to say a big thanks for various things:

Stephan Whelan - for supporting the event with DB T-shirts and this great forum to arrange things! Awesome.

Colin (amphibious) - assisting me in the stolen fins department, sharing his wild-game provisions, and providing non-stop chuckling, laughter, and howling.

Jim - supporting everybody's snacking requirements, group hang-out location at the mansion-tent, being Floridian Ambassador for Underwater Experiences, sharing you underwater housing and video equipment, and bloody expensive beer!

Fondueset - sharing you camera, arriving with my memory card, sharing your zen experiences, and certainly somehow related, your tempered dedication to eradicating with means of imminent destruction, any ill-will directed upon our group from certain whale museum attendants.

Claire - being a trooper in handling the harsh conditions, being prepared to eat a 19 lbs. lingcod by yourself, and for your general good cheer.

Gabriel and Brianna - for your fireside hangout, glowstick marvel, general good cheer and sharings.

Lee (Feign) - your assistance and connections with locating the prime diving locations, your dedication to the event with the colossal journey by car, bearer of bad news regarding Erik Young's condition, and bearer of DeeperBlue T's.

Eric (efattah) - complimentary hands-on Liquivision F1 experience for all of us (fanatastic dive watch; definately second to none), snorkel, and as always, good diving companionship.

Pete (laminar) - just for being you my friend and exploring this wonderful experience with all of us.

Me - for believing that you all would be worth sharing this trip with.

All you who didn't come but said you may - for motivating the rest of us ;).

I would like to request from all the participants if they could send me their most memorable moments, of which maybe we can incorporate into an article on the trip. Send as many as you can think of.

Fondueset - please send me the link and password for uploading images/video.

All Hail Tyler! All Hail the Ling King!

you have earned the right to wear a hat like this:

We must not forget to mention that The Deepest Bear was also an important part of our group.

On day one he appeared a bit uneasy after discovering the majority of those who made the trip where spearos!

:)
