British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

That's great! Looks like we'll have lots of writers and video/still photographers. We can always just have a camp fire, some tequila and "team write" the article... rofl I always like to do that sort of thing in committee!

I have a camera with 640x480 30fps video mode, or 1024x768 15fps. I need to get the underwater housing plus some more memory. I think our limitation on this front is going to be memory. So, I am reminding everybody to bring whatever form of flash memory you own, whether it works in your camera or another device of yours, since it will most likely work with somebody else's camera.

I currently have 256MB and 32MB standard speed SD.

I've got a gig in mine - I'll probably bring my laptop so I can upload if it gets filled up.

Don't laugh but I do have one concern. I've never dove with any spearfishers before, are they're ever any accidents like shooting someone your diving with because you couldn't see them or something? Because I do not think there are any close hospitals...

this is a non-issue. Spearfishing is extremely safe. there will be at least one Medic on the trip (Lv.3 FA) :crutch (that being said, I lost my Trauma kit when my car was stolen, so if anyone has and O2 Kit or AED they want to bring along it would be much appreciated, I'm down to basics....)

Laminar, I love tequila. room temp, strait up. count me in. :D

I've got one 512mb sony card. should have a 1.0G by the trip.

Tequila is too hard core for me. I only drink saki. Followed by taking turns punching one another in the face in the Zen manner. Slivovitz may be better for writing.
I'll score some extra sd cards.

I'll pass on drinking with you then :D been hit in the face enough times, and don;t need to get any uglier :t

Tequila turned evil on me about 25 years ago - once that happens I don't think theres any going back. It was a bad summer. Perhaps I'll write a novel about it sometime - along the lines of Harry Crews 'Blood and Grits'.

"strange beetles struggled in my hair as a brutal late morning sun awakened the stench of kelp. Struggling to focus I saw a roosters leg sticking out of the wet sand in front of me. Obviously the tide had come in..."

I'm currently lookin' into the possibility of being there... and if it's possible (work and family depending) you can count me in! I'll keep you posted Erik.

I'll let the Freedive Toronto crowd know too. We've got several landlocked spearos here that are gettin' pretty itchy trigger fingers!! ;)

Cheers,
Aaron

Gabriel is an RN and I am a lifeguard, we should be OK on any first aid that needs doing! LOL ..and we have camera memory too.

Hey XyseR, I'll probably be taking Amtrak if I can't find a ride, you should check it out. The only problem is Amtrak only takes you to Nanaimo, which is about 200 miles from Telegraph Cove. I've been trying to find a bus, plane, boat or even a freaken donkey that would go the rest of the way. Greyhound goes to Port Hardy and Erik said that I/we could get a ride from someone in our group to Telegraph Cove.

A plane ticket from here, today anyway, is around $600, I think it's a rediculous price.

Good luck and hopefully we'll see you there.

Wow, I am surprised by the response to a small idea I had with a few friends. Poor Ontario divers are screwed if they want to spearfish. No better place to vent than West Coast Canada IMHO ;)

I was also thinking, after iceselkie was talking about flogging her monofin (keep it clean fellows), that I too have some gear kicking around that is gathering dust.
I therefore suggest that anyone coming bring along whatever they think might be worth trading or selling. That way the gear can be tested before haggling!
Peace,
Erik Y.

If we are going to sell/trade gear, then I will have to rent an entire semi truck to bring all my old gear!

BTW I also have a 640x480 30fps camera with a 1GB memory card, but I still don't have a housing yet (will hopefully get one in time).

It's a ways out but talking around I may want to ship the Cobra out ahead of myself. Sounds maybe a safer way than on the plane.

I think the video res on my casios is only 320x240 - haven't done much with it. Great stills though and I'm willing to pass them around a bit - have ewc-55 housings for both. Looking for a decent strobe now.

Mmmmmm..........

If I can put everything in the rigth place and make myself to the BC trip, there will be good Tequila. mmmhhhhh

Wow, I finally read this thread. This is impressive. Only a couple months ago I think it was 3 people going on this trip Erik, Stu and I. I am looking forward to meeting you guys.

Amphi, I also have a food saver. Do you have a DC to standard A/c plug conversion or another method to plug it in on a campsite. I was thinking about coming up with chest of dry ice as well.
