British Columbia Spearfishing Trip

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
was planning on scrounging an inverter for the trip and running it of my car's lighter port.

think dry ice will last a week? might have to do some ice runs every few days...

I've seen a few bites for the Tequila. Of course, I am a responsible user of tequila...but that might have something to do with my special abilty to convert tequila molecules into oxygen. For those who are afraid, it's probably for the best.

Looking at that Lingcod photo makes me wonder if any of you would like to give me a spearfishing 101 lesson. Good angle for an article, don't you think? I'm game to try a pole spear on a lingcod to give it a fighting chance. I promise to eat it and share with everyone.

Anyone want to place bets on whether or not I will be successful? How many attempts? Failing that, I'll just dive down and net 'im!

Pete

I guess it depends what I use for insulation. May have to get more, but I have kept dry ice for long periods before, just don't open the container to often. The other nice thing is the lack of melted byproduct.

I'm sure you will be successful Pete. Ling Cod are not usually challenging prey once you find them, but they are great eating. The challenge is in finding them. Polespear is a weapon I'm not familiar with and that in itself could be challenging. 'Killer' Willer's used one I think.
There are other fish to shoot that are more sporting as they are easily spooked though.
I'm also sure anyone here would be willing to join you in a hunt, especially if any of your diving ability rubs off on them

Peace,
Erik Y.

I'll have a lightly rigged Riffe MT0 and a 100cm stock rigged omer cobra to pass around.

If there is a need I can also bring my laptop and a 60 gig usb drive to store pictures/vides etc. I can burn these to dvd once I get home and will also build an imageevent site for the trip. My laptop will go 4 or five hours on battery - I'll be happy to bring it for that purpose if anybody thinks that will help - otherwise I want nothing to do with computers for the duration (F()*&(* brain sucking alters to the golden freakin calf of productivity)

I've also got a couple of extra masks - Lince2 and alien - that I can throw in if anyone wants to try these. I like to bring an extra anyway.

Still need to know camping fees, proximity to dive spots from campsite etc.

pole spear will work just fine, at least according to my limited experience with ling cod. the only tricky part seems to be finding them, once that's over, you take your time and pick your shot. I'll be bringing one on the trip you can feel free to test out. demo'ing a new one from a machinist in Norcal, looks like the the ticket for the budget minded BC spearing.....

I'll step-up for giving you a primer, but I'm sure I won;t be the only one.

havn't had lingcod since the fall... MMmmmmmmm..... gonna be some good eats!

eric- sounds like something shackleton would say (the ad). how about some females too?

willer- gets the hose again

With some of the females on this site, "safe return" would not only be unlikely but unwanted! Steal me away and make me do terrible things . . . please! :inlove

Is this a painting your daughter did, predicting the trip adventures?

I don;t know if I have a rifle big enough for dragons......

think I;m covered for the Giant Dragonflys.... exoskeletons can;t be THAT tough eh? :t

Don't worry about the local dragons, I usually bring shoulder launched rockets to take care of them.

Seriously though, in Winter 1999 I launched a supersonic model rocket in Richmond near the Vancouver airport. It created a sonic boom and showed up on the airport radar due to the metal nose cone. The police showed up immediately, but a co-worker and I sweet talked him away. That was before 9/11 !!!

Good man Eric. Best to push the envelope in as many directions as possible. And your proactive safety consciousness is much appreciated, I'm sure, by all.

I believe that's one of her dream series paintings - recent but the trip is a surprise - she doesn't know about it. I thought it interestingly apt

borrow? but my .450 is sleeping peacefully, in a well oiled slumber only but a few feet away...... why would I need to borrow one?

unless you have a Lott you wish to donate to the expedition
