Nice pictures. Just in case anyone saw the Telegraph cove pictures on the above website..don't be confused as this is not the same Telegraph cove where the dive trip is going to launch from.

Lee

yup, i'm confused!??! i'm new to this BC province still..:t

Just a bump - let us know specifics as you learn them - I want to locate as proximate to good diving as possible.

Will do Chris- as soon as I know, I'll post all the info. Where we will be will be like nothing you've ever seen, I promise. My favourite diving anywhere, and I've been: Egypt, Persian Gulf, Indonesia, Volcano in Sumatra, lakes in Canada, Mexican Riviera, caves in Mexico, English Channel.
Hang in there amigos.
Peace,
Erik Y.

I'll PM Andy's newest info to you, compadre. Last I heard he was busy about to be a Father. But you know how it goes when nobody writes, no one calls....:mute

Well, here's the news about the Cabins at Telegraph Cove.. I've cut/pasted the email I got back from the owner:

Sorry for the delay, but it has been a busy couple of months. The rate for 10 guests and over to a maximum of 18 will be $155 per person per day. This includes accomodations, 3 hearty meals, snacks and soft drinks throughout the day. I have a new watermaker this year so lots of excellent drinking water as well, better than bottled! Extra costs are transportation from Telegraph Cove to our camp and back via water taxi and will be less than $100 per person per trip. If the group arrival at Tel Cove can be coordinated to allow chartering one complete boat, the rate will be less. Daily transportation around the area to the various sites is based on fuel costs only. Almost all fishing charters and other tour operators have taken this approach due to variable fuel costs. We simply run a tab for both boats. As you well know, the area is exceptional so there is no requirement for lengthy trips other than to visit native sites or the museum at Echo Bay for example. Last season guests were catching halibut right off the dock!
Advise me as to how your group is arriving on the island, via car/ferry or flying to Victoria/Comox and I can help with logistics of travel to Telegraph Cove and back.

In addition to the sauna and hot tub, I have also just purchased a commercial smoker and vacuum bagging equipment for guests to use. So if you wish to process your catch for taking home, it is available on a consumables cost recovery basis.

Will be another 2-3 weeks before the new barge is in the water, but it is coming together very nice.
Talk to you soon...
Eric Moe

Well, that is way out of my budget dudes. If I had the dough to throw around, I'd do it as Eric M is a great guy and phenomenal cook, but I don't.
I will be camping, and I suggest we try to arrange/pre-book etc. Let's look back at some of the posts with links and figure something out.
Peace,
Erik Y.

Sounds right to me Jim. I'm going to call them and ask about the need to reserve spots if at all.
Peace,
Erik Y.

What sort of accomodations? Also - would there be a more ideal location in terms of access to good diving? Say a spot where we could step out the door and drop in? This sounds like a great package - but 200 bucks a day for travel is a bit of a bite.

Just need the geography - I gather there a a couple of telegraph coves or something - I'll search out the accomodations once I know where we most want to be.

To be clear - I'm up for camping - or a cabin or something. My priority is proximity to good diveage - Ideally walking distance for at least some of it.

I am considering to bring my 34' sailboat up for the trip. For the length of the trip I would probably take up moorage at: http://www.telegraphcove.ca/tcv/accom/marina.cfm

I can sleep up to 6 people via 2 double, 2 singles bunks. During the day time it could be used as a dive boat, albeit 5-6 knot cruising speed, and take a couple more passengers. Lifejackets would need to be sourced, donated, or provided. For those interested let me know.

Expectations would be to assist in performing minor day-day maintenance of the boat and a donation to assist with costs of moorage, fuel, and the good times.

Prior to the trip, I would need to sail from Vancouver, and for any early arrivals there may be the opportunity to join on this travel as well.

For those interested, let me know.

Cheers,
Tyler

Wow! Those all look great - including the boat and the campsite. Once I have a map in my head of where everyone is going to be I'll figure it out. If the formidable logistics at this end work out my daughter and I will be flying out to wherevers closest.

Tyler I'm in for a bunk on the boat and will certainly help out with whatever's necessary.

I have never shore-dived this area but am not too concerned about proximity to good hunting grounds as this area is so fecund, however having a boat available could open up lots of possibilities, including heading to a few places like Stubb's Island which is an amazing dive site.
I consider it another adventure, which means searching and enjoying the search. There are no spearfishermen up there, so the advantage is it'll be ours to claim and discover, but on the other hand we have to do the discovering. Besides the diving there are also many other things to see and do there. Lots of Native history and a remote part of the world where you can get a glimpse of what the place looked like 300+ years ago in some spots.

Between Tyler's boat and campsites/cabins, we could all have a great time. My experiences with actually organising trips in the past lends me to believe there will be approximately 8-10 people at the most over the course of this week.
Tyler, maybe set a fuel/day rate per person for any excursions beforehand. Canadian fuel is expensive, approaching 5$/gallon at the moment.
Peace,
Erik Y.

Well, it is purely on a voluntary basis, but I would think that if I am saving people around $60/day on chartering a boat, then somewhere around $15-20/day would be nice, and for those staying on board, something representing saving them from going to a hostel or what have you, $5-10/day. But it is a donation basis so, you can arrange it amongst yourselves or individually. Some people have to work harder than others to take part in the journey, so no judgement from me.

It is close quarters in the vessel, I don't want to project any ideas of grandeur. Stay tuned. I can post pictures if you wish.

sounds cool. Question - Are you a good salior?
Come along and you will find out. :p

Kidding, but I am sorry there is no simple way for a person to answer such an open-ended question.

Then I'm in for 30$/day if that's cool. I think Lee and Stu would also take a berth. I lived on the Nautilus VII for 6 months in a closet, so no worries. Do you have a BBQ? Anything we should bring amigo?
Peace,
Erik Y.

Righto - then we have a rallying point - seek lodgings near the boat :)
If my daughter and I do the boat we'll pay the going rate, of course - $30 sounds more than fair. That said - How close is the mooring to the campground and other things mentioned herein? I'd like to be near the group and able to fall into the water. Odds are we'll camp or get some sort of cabin or something.

It sounds really wonderful Tyler; grandeur is also relative! I will be tenting with my family, but I'm definitly curious (as I've never been aboard such a thing).
