ok just came back from melkbos viz about 1m at best... so i went for a nice swim in the kelp :( and so absolutly nothing. but took a drive to oudekraal just past twelve apostles and omg flat as a mirror and incredible viz :D :D :D
So i think we will just go for a pleasure dive at oudekraal tomorow and work on a bit of hypothermia conditioning :D

So how was everybodys diving this weekend? Went camping at palmiet river in kleinmond and apart from a thick line of red tide close to the beach the vis seemed awesome, relatively flat water behind the shore break but with very strong rips and currents. Didnt get to dive though as I didnt have enough space in the car for the tent and the diving bags, so I opted for a line in the river on sat night. Got some decent bites untill the local band of otters arrived from their ocean swim for the night and entered the river, after that no more bites. It was however very cool to see a family of 6 or 7 otters eyeing you suspiciously from the water while huffing warnings. I didnt even know that they mite be there as its the first time Ive seen them in three years of regular camping in that area. I did however get an idea for a day trip of shore diving starting at storms river and working our way through rooiels and up to bettys bay. Bettys has a very nice looking bay that comes in with clear water in the centre and kelp forests on the side and if you do a bit of scrabbling down the cliffs around rooiels there are some places that looks pretty promising close to the shore. Lets call it a day of fun exploring :)

Heya Henre, as you can see sat was crappy, so sunday we decided to go for a fun dive at Oudekraal. Which turned out to be great fun :D 29C no wind. Flat surface water temp of about 15c (which was weird) and 15m viz. Swam around the reseve chasing hotties with my bare hands. But was allot of fun.

is Jeff back yet form his trip?, if so then yeah lets hookup for a meeting sometime this week at te V&A. (seems to be the most central point between Paarl and Muizenberg :) any night cept Wednesday is good.

And if its not too windy this weeekend maybe we can jump onto that scooner and head out to clifton, where the people lying in the sand can envy the lucky bastards who has the oportunity to anchor a yacht just off the beach ;)

Just got a report from one of the guys that took part in the Game fish challenge in Struisbaai this weekend. Vis wasnt too great and they had 5m waves braking out on the back reefs, out by the wrecks and on the deeper banks if I understood correctly. The comp lasted 9 hours and out of the 58 participants only 8 got one or two yellow tail each. Not very good for a trip like that I think, Im glad I didnt head out there this weekend...

hi Guys,
Just finished reading through 8 pages of postes trying to catch up. I am currently working at sea, but shore leave starts next week and I 'll join if you are goining out, for a dive or a beer.

hi all, yes, jeff is back but quite immersed in new job, but we can try steal some of his time... i'm giving a aida two star freediving course this week for some scuba divers :) so quite busy in the evenings...
if we do do it this week, thurs is it... otherwise we can maybe do a social/ dive combo over the weekend?

Hiya

Seems like everyone is very keen on getting wet!!:D:D

In my experience, the weather is 90% of the time unfavourable on weekends. Soooo, why not do a week dive?? Considering that the howling South Easter generally pesters us, why not look at the Atlantic side. The wrecks of The Boss and the Oakburn, situated close to the famous Maori, is a FAVOURITE dive spot of mine.

The Oakburn lies under the wreck of a crane ship, the Boss. Maximum water depth of about 25m, with stunning swim throughs and superb structure. There's always some hottie's on the wreck and with the howling SE'lery winds, the viz. is normally 15-30m+, albeit a freezing cold 8-10 degrees.

Since it being summer, the sun only sets at about 8:00pm, so why not meet at either Hout Bay or Mouille Point after work, say 5:30 or 5:45 and then we can all go out on my boat and still get in at least an hour and a halfs worth of dive time.

Thoughts??

Regards
miles

ps. just to make you envious, i enjoyed some diving at Cape Infanta in 24degrees water, with 10m viz and then had 30m+ viz and 22 degree's water on the tuna grounds, the pass couple of days!! :D:D

Hi gang

As Hunlee said, am crazy at the moment, have just started my commercial dive course at UCT Oceanagraphy, and will be fuill time for the month, but am still keen for after 5 pm dives, and weekends, first week at the moment, so just seeing the routine.
Am doing the course for my position at 2 Oceans Aquarium, will let you know bout that in a seperate thread, as soon as I get a bit of a gap.

If anyone wants to plan a weekday evening hook-up for later this week, I will keep a tab on the postings..
