Next time, try the Rooikrantz ledges to Buffels area. Pretty much well protected from most sea's and easy shallow diving with reef and kelp. Always a GOOD possibility of ambushing the ever passing schools of yellowtail, as well as having Galgoen (when the season opens end of February) and roman, plus the usual array of reef fish.

Chokka, they're very easy to catch, IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT COLOURED JIGS!! Inside the harbour at Simons Town, neon yellow or lime yellow lead jigs with pink floating yamash-ita jigs work best. Everyday they have a different mood, but these colors will consistantly outfish others. Fished on a 6-10kg line, you WILL catch chokka. If you're in the Buffels area, same colours, but the water will be much deeper, sort of 35-40m deep.

A bit more info on the boat please. Single or twin motors, length, etc, etc

I've now offloaded my tuna at Kalkbay and have on THREE occations in the last week seen the yellowtail the trek-netters have taken from Smits..... :rcard :rcard 7000kg's the one day, 8000kg's the next and 9000kg's on the last day!! And those were only the days i was at the harbour!!!:rcard :rcard The saddest part is that it is large fish, laden with ROE, 8-15kg class, which come into the bay to lay their eggs.......... talk about killing the goose that lays the golden egg.........

Twin 70s I think, the boat is about 4.5m long. Youve seen us before man, that one time at Dassen, you were out with Tommy and his son. Our crew included myself, Faiz, Barto and Christo on that particular day... Normally towed with a red Sani...

My brothers boat should be able to follow yours maybe we can arrange a charter from him one of these sunny weekends. Though not much bigger it has a deeper hull and two x 60 mariners.

Hiya

Both boats sound fine. As long as they both have the neccesarry B-rating, which allows them to operate up to 40nm from land. Most boats have a C-rating, which only allows them up to 15nm off-shore. Very easy to check, simply see the boats registration number, which is pasted on the hull. Should read DTC 1234 B or DTC 1234 C. Very easy to upgrade from a C to a B rating. All thats needed is a couple of flares and some other small odds and ends.

Maybe you guys must pop if one afternoon after work for a cup of coffee at my place and i can show you whats needed and how to go about things out there. Tuna season has just started, and we have THE WORLDS BEST tuna fishery right on our doorstep!! People pay HUGE sums of money to experience what we do every weekend!! Just a bit of effort and some imagination, and you'll be having THE BEST spearfishing on this planet!!

THey couldnt have been 70's they were way to small, DT had to be 20's or 40's pushing it at 50's. I might be wrong though.

my bro says that he only has a c license, and even though he could upgrade to a B he doesnt feel like getting trapped 40nm offshore in bad conditions. But if we want to do a dive off the point or at dassen hell take us no probs. So maybe for a future fun dive to assisnate some hotties.

I'm in the process of organizing a fun fishing/spearing trip more towards the end of the month. But ...... and here is the catch, we will probably launch from yzerfontein and dive and fish around dassen island. Which roughly translates too. Freezing cold water 8-14c, but excellent viz normally. Unless the snoek and tail is running in this area there isnt too much to catch or shoot except hottie's (and its a bit late in the season for tails) but hey,,,,, a day in the sun in clear water can only be fun.

If you want to I can add you to the list. But yeah I would seriously not mind a day out with Miles, he knows all the spots so it should be good fun.

BTW where is blue_cape? havent heard anything from him for a while.

I normally fish the area known as the Canyon. This is a sea mountain which rises up from well over 1000m deep, to about 400m deep. Your water temp is anything from 18-25 degrees cecuis, with viz. varying from 10-50m+. This warm, blue, clean water is a mere 25nm from Cape point.

Normal visitors are seals, various dolphins, whales (various types, including Pilot Whales and Killer Whales/Orca's), sunfish/mola-mola and a plethora of birds, including the stunning albatross!! Not forgetting, the odd small hammerhead shark and hordes of harmless blue sharks and the very elusive mako. Luckily, NO GREAT WHITES this far offshore!! Oh, and the tuna.......
