Comanche camera mount Bracket

It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Hey, I just looked at Ron's Corner NZ website to see how the antipodeans do it & came across one I liked by ... Old Man Dave! :D

Yes, I have been considering using the plate at the rear of the gun as in the photo. I hadn't realised it was OMD's until you pointed it out.

I do like Robbos solution. I'm just not convienced yet that the Comanche aluminium barrel is solid at the barrel end. I guesse the only way to find out is to drill! .. . or if I may send an email to cressi. If it isn't solid I think you would risk crushing the barrel when you tighten the bolt for a solid fixing, hence my idea of an insert if needed.

I have looked for a fitting, that would be flush and quick to fix to , and of marine quality. The best I can do is an FCS surf fin plug. The problem is the grub screws with these is very small and wear quickly (rounding off) , as they aren't designed for frequent removal. It would be nice to have such a fixture in the side of the gun from the manufacturer so you could add fittings such as the camera and/or flash light.

ANOTHER, observation is a few of these setups have the camera on the right side of the gun. I am assuming it is best for a right handed spearo to position the camera on the left side of the gun, so you can start video, take picture with your free arm easily. , if I'm not overlooking something?

Ah great thread! Very interesting! So are the go pro mounts no good ? I assumed I could use the bike one in some way to mount to a speargun ?

I've always mounted my camera on the right hand side of the gun because I am left handed. The speargun would go in my left hand and the camera controls are all designed to be used with the right hand- so it worked out very well for me.

I'm still waiting to see ANY photo or video from one of the new Hero 5mp cameras. Doesn't anyone have one to post???

Jon

Quick question donw all these mounts get in the way when your loading your gun ?

I use a pneumatic and the cam is mounted on top of the barrell, so its right out of the way for me. :)

Its a bit tricky but you soon get used to it mate. made a short clip for you.

Im loading onto the 1st notch as I was in the shallows but loading onto the 2nd notch is not much different.the camera is mounted the same as GUTSHOTS on the cornwall thread. Hope this helps :)

Fiddled around a bit more, cutting down threads etc....loading not a problem as can rotate camera if needed....though should be OK.

Hello All
I m a researcher working on a BBC2 programme called what to Eat
Now. The programme is all about seasonal food and cooking.
In the programme we are looking to feature a number of Sea fish and I am exploring ways in which one can film from the spear fishermans' point of view.
It is my understanding that the Go pro range of cameras are good for this purpose. Obviously a number of you guys have created impressive mounts for you camera.
It would be great if someone could help me with a more generic device that could be affixed to any spear gun. For example has anyone used the Go Pro mount devised for affixing to bike handle bars and the like? Is there any reason this shouldn’t work?

i'm sure the BBC budget must stretch to more than a gopro. Enough of us pay annual fees just for the privilege of having a TV in the house even if its not used for BBC channels.

i guesse we won't be needing our HD sets after all!!

on a more helpful note ;>) check the gopro web page. Loads of mounts available for different uses from helmet mounts, bike mounts, car, surfboard etc etc.

however i doubt the quality is suitable for TV use.

hi Whattoeatnow and a warm welcome to DB.

Ive never had the chance to fiddle with the handle bar kit for the gopro but a few us now use the expansion kit ( kudos to gutshot for this one) which gives the option for quick release and the option to change the angle if need be.

gopro doest look bad on my HD tv but the picture quality is a bit soft. I can send you a dvd of the quality if you like that will give you a better Idea.

I use the HERO 3 version but there is a 5mb wide angle version

If I had to put money on it I would say the Expansion kit for the gopro is the best option.

Hi Whattoeatnow.
The only problem with using the Go-Pro handlebar mount for spearguns is that its designed for a bike handlebar. The only application where I can see it being used is on a pneumatic gun, and even then the clamp would be too small. It would foul the rubbers on a band gun. With the Go-Pro, you have to use the dedicated mount, so the expansion kit is used to get the angles etc. I've just made a screw-mount base for my Pro, as I'm experimenting with angles and its easier to mount on stuff this way.

The reason why most spearos make their own mounts is that they are bespoke to the gun and the diver, and they can be as versitile or as simple as you want to make them. I gained knowledge and skills making mine, and enjoy seeing other peoples solutions to the same problems.

Thank you for the responses gentlemen. This is exactly the level of expertise I was hoping to find on the forum.
I can appreciate that a bespoke mount is preferable if you are a keen spear fisherman that is diving regularly. However as I’m sure you can appreciate we are looking at a one off occasion and as such would like something as simple as possible.
The expansion kit sounds like a great idea. Are you referring to the wrist expansion kit? if so does it require any modification or does one simply put it on the body of the gun. It would be fabulous if you could post a few photographs.
Thank you once again for your pointers guys.
