Dived today. Even though the viz look good, when we got in the water it was shite! Missed a large mackerel which was breaking every speed record around. Saw loads of bass but nothing big enough so every one of them made a point of sitting at the end of my gun! Do fish have a sense of humour?? Got 1 mullet.
Then on the way back to the beach a seal started stalking me. Just as i thought i'd lost him, he had my mullet from my stringer on my belt!! Bless him!

I've read maybe 4 or 5 reports on this forum about seal encounters in the last couple of years but haven't encountered one myself while spearing yet though . Most seem to enjoy the novelty but sounds like some will take your fish (fair exchange?). I've seen them on or near beaches in Cornwall a few times (inc. Tintagel next to the castle & at Lizard Point).
I had a gar fish - is that a pipe fish? - about 18" long repeatedly swim around me at Chesil last year; odd. I wasn't tempted to spear it.

I've been reading the recent posts about the seatec gabbiano gun and glad to see so many out there using it or giving it respect!! I have a gabbiano 90 elite (with the reel and thicker rubbers from spearo.co.uk) and also rate it highly and love the accuracy and power it brings - despite being a little heavy in the water.
Got a problem though - the wishbone has just broken! Typically in timely fashion just days before my 6 week teachers summer holiday - doh!
It is the original seatec wishbone and the metal moving parts are okay, it is the plastic screw-on threaded caps that screw onto the end of the rubbers that have cracked and come apart. I have got 20mm rubbers on the gun and can't find a spare wishbone that will fit it. All my spares are too small for the thread on the end of the rubber.
I have tried to ring Dave at spearo and also email him about a spare but can't seem to get hold of him (Are you out there???). I was wondering if any of you other gabbiano users would know of a place to get spares and parts for the gun, or in the very least somewhere that does wishbones for 20mm rubbers?

You could temporarily tie up a makeshift dyneema wishbone, perfom a search at the top of the page, i'm sure there will be a thread somewhere from the US hunters on tying wishbones. It will do the job, untill dave gets back.

Try the guys at Potland Oceaneering, i'm pretty sure they sell 20mm Cressi rubbers so should have a wishbone that fits (cressi threaded wish bone will fit your rubbers)
Pipe fish are very different to garfish. They are more like stretched sea horses. I've only ever seen one but I have heard they can be quite common in some places.
Dived the beach next from where i live the past two days with mixed success.Managed to shoot two bass with one shot yesterday then got to play with two seals that appeared,gutshots tale was fresh in my mind so i was gaurding my catch!Today i dived the same spot with a couple of mates and after gearing up and making it to the water i discovered that the mouth piece from my snorkel was missing.....as the walk back in the sun didn't seem appealing i decided to give it shot without it.Complete waste of time...Anyway,mate shot a trigger fish,saw a few small bass and that was that.
Dived off Gul rock yesterday,swell was a bit more than expected with a little windswell out of the North.Vis was alright though and popped off a bass early on,my friends weren't enjoying it so much though so we got out early.Gonna try a different north coast stretch this afternoon,conditions look great.
