Local water is 0 viz and looks like that way for all of next week :head.. at least the diy is getting done! Maybe forced to "go west... where the waters clear", "go west with my gun and spear" , "go west when the tide is low" , "go west where the Bass will show" :friday :t

Just come back from a weeked spearfishing on The lizard herself with my brother. Stayed at Praa sands but the viz on the west side looked pretty shoddy on Friday and Sat so we headed over to the east side, south of Falmouth in Porthallow where we took two 4lb mullet in a HUGE patch of string weed, a nice pollack in deeper water and a cuttle fish that we released. We did not see too many bass but we did see two HUGE mullet in the same string weed but we had already filled our quota for the day so they we let them be.

Great weekend, just got back from a 7 hour marathon drive back home.

Sounds like you had fun. I have found that best best fish have been really shallow there. Very close in, in about 1-2m of water. The only problem is you end up almost crawling along, not finning!

Need some new knees in my suit.

Dived offshore yesterday morning for about 45min. Managed 15min of slack water before things started to get to pick up. Saw 1 bass of about 3-4lb but he seemed to know he was out of range and kept his distance. He came back for about 5 dives and the went. After that spearflap and myself heading inshore to a beach further north and saw a few bass. Missed 1 which i cannot forgive myself for (lack of patience) and took a reaction shot at a 100mph mackeral which, of course, i missed.

Viz inshore was not too bad at about 4-5m but first you had to dive under the surface cloud which it sounds like DafyddRees would have seen. I will give it a shot tomorrow afternoon to see if i can't do a little better.

Well chaps I couldn’t have cocked it much more if I’d tried, missed a Trigger Fish and the biggest Wrasse I’ve ever seen. Well it was either a Wrasse or a Grouper but as we were at Cornwall and not Corfu I’ll go with the Wrasse.
Saw a Nice Pollock to, but for some reason it didn’t come in for the shot.
Had a great day in the liquid sunshine and even if the weather was crap the company was good and as ever Cornwall still remains my favourite place to be.

All most forgot to mention The Lizard Cider Barn had a quick stop in there on the way home to purchase the rocket fuel that is now keeping my blood/alcohol level at the correct level.:friday

Hi Guys -

Just got back from a quick dip this afternoon (thank God for flexi leave in the civil service!). Vis up to about 5m at best with almost no vis around the lee side of the rocks in the shalows due to the weed and the sand in suspension.

Saw a lovely big 5-6lb bass on the way out, but this was the new outing with the new gun (thanks dave at Spearo) and by the time I remembered (and went for the right safety) he was away. Got a 4lb mullet and then saw a school of about 20 bass ranging from 2 - 5 lb and managed to get one about 4 lb.

So as a result - new suit (dave at spearo) after usng my oceanic for the last 6 years, new gun, new fins ......the wife was a concerned....but not now - she loves fresh bass and mullet! WOW all those browney points!

Still plenty of brown and spider crabs...all I need it to add a couple of pound of lead to my belt (or go back to the weights...muscle heavier than fat and all that!) for the next trip.

Forecast is not great for the rest of the week....

well done diver9, dived yesterday at porthmellon super calm great viz saw quite a few bass but all to small and a john dory again to small, nothing had but enjoyable dive.....

Dived on the Roseland yesterday. Great viz, 6m+ until i got into the really shallow weed then down to about 1m. Very frustrating dive though. The bass (and there were loads of them) were tiny! Tried creeping thru the weed and saw the fattest tail in a sandy clearing. "Here we go" I thought, only to find it was a mullet! I know most of you guys take mullet but i don't enjoy eating them. Had too many which tasted very strong! Anyway, he was totally unaware so i sat for about 5min with my gun pointing at his head watching him. It was amazing to see. After a while i started to make noises to play with him and he eventually swam really slowly past my mask. After that i also saw a 3lb+ Sea Trout who came right up to the end of my spear. Why can't we take them?? Loads more small bass but eventually managed to take the biggest bass i found which was about 2lb. Dissapointing result for 2 1/2 hrs but to was nice to see the mullet like i did, and the trout. Dinner was nice last night though.

(I don't know why she says so)... can't be to benifit you, me or the sea trout!! Most likely the various estates with salmon/trout rivers and distant ties to the monachy. You could always go and spend £££s on a permit and catch one on a fly on one of the pre mentioned estates!

Just a quick note to say I tried getting in this afternoon at Carlyon Bay. It was a light easterly, but the sea had a nasty swell and had obvously picked up every particle of sand in the northern hemisphere.....hence vis down to just about the tip of the gun!

Hope the weather improves for next week....wife and kids are away....I wonder waht I'll do!!!!

I got in on the South Coast this afternoon and the vis was just about Ok 3-4m at best. It was quite hard work and I missed a nice fish whilst looking over my shoulder instead of where the gun was pointing. So much for instinct. I was in the lee of some rocks and after a while ventured into the open sea which was harder still but worth it as I found out where the fish were. On the rough side of a natural breakwater thumping around in the undertow. I saw a nice small schoal of bigger 4lb + bass I've not seen bass that big together before but they stayed out of reach and there were plenty of smaller fish too. I finally bagged a 4 lb 3 oz bass after a lot of effort and fun and left the others to it as I was knackered.
