Any of you guys know approximately how much a return train ticket cost from Southampton to Porth or as near as we can get?
We have seen a deal staying at the Veor Manour hotel in late May, any info on the hotel would be good too

It's run out of Portsmouth by Dave Bailey, from the BSA, and his son. I've just bought a pair of fins from them and was happy with the service, so thought I might share the knowledge of their existence with everyone else on the forum so that we have all got a few more options when it comes to buying gear in a fairly limited market place. I actually popped round and paid cash, as I happened to be in the area at the time, so haven't actually bought online yet.

The train will cost a fortune Foxy. Probably cheaper to buy a Ferrari and drive that down!
To be a little more helpful, could you fly Southampton to Newquay? or Bournemouth to Newquay?

Just freediving initially and at about 2-3 months I had got well back into the usual crayfish diving with bag and some light lead. I think I started spearing casually again roughly 3-4 months after. I was back on my board having a firing session I can remember as if it was yesterday at exactly 10 months. I had two bolts just above the knee, a hollow perforated 40cm ish nail screwed down through the middle of the femur and another fixing bolt up at the top of the femur. Had those out 2 years later.......amazing what orthopedic surgeons can do.
Foxy, what about Airsouthwest from Guernsey to Plymouth? Their flights start 8th April from £39 incl.
Plymouth to Newquay on the train or National Express..?
I would think maybe to sort a hire car deal from someone like Enterprise would probably be better though?
Porth Veor Manor hotel is a taxi ride to town or about 30 mins walk.
Also see http://www.pentirehotelnewquay.co.uk/ as you can get to South Fistral and Crantock Beach/Village(by footbridge or ferry tides depending)

I can fly to Exeter for £90 or Southampton for £80 but I have a mate in Southampton that I intended to stay with for a couple of days before we went down to Cornwall. I will check out connecting flight from Southampton but as trains are such a novelty for us I still fancy the ride.
Unfortunately the Plymouth flights are not as cheap as they are advertised - about £160 return but yes an option.

So tell me what exactly could you do at 6 weeks ? Walk on it ? use flippers ? Not surf though
Pad, at 6 weeks I did walk on it but with a sort of semi straight leg hobble! It gets a little painful if you try to much and I just used one crutch.
Obviously swimming or finning gently is so much easier and allows you much more freedom as well as physically reconditioning you as your broken leg muscles will shrink..oh and maybe get one of those muscle pad machines and set it on low (otherwise it tingles/burns with the proximity to the metalwork.
Hell, the water's around cornwall are going to be quiet at the start of this season! I just saw my doctor about my ear op. It looks like it will be done at the end of april. He also said recovery should be about 2-3 months of no water time:rcard. Laser is not used anymore and the hammer and chisel is no good for me as the ear is too far gone! Got to try and look at the bright side of things though! At least i will miss the blankton bloom and the fish will be in full swing. I had best make the most of the time i have before the op!
On a good note i have just been accepted into collage for a marine conservation foundation degree, leading into a full marine biology degree if i do an extra year. It startsnext sept. Just wait till i find out the secrets those bass are keeping from me. Their ass is grass!!:martial

My op doesnt sound as bad as yours S&S i broke my fibia down by the ankle and just have one plate on it pretty simple. Maybe some torn ligaments on the other side but Im hoping for a quicker recovery than yours!

What can we do to protect our ears when diving? I use custom surfing plugs for surfing, and doc plugs for diving which are vented (but I still get water in my ears with these).
Any ideas if you can get custom vented plugs. I know custom plugs aren't cheap, but I've had mine for 3 years and do not reget the money spent. fraction of the ear infections I had.
I still get them but they are almost always from diving now.
Anything to avoid a worse situation.

gutshot and Padaxes , I'm sure everyone on db feels deeply sorry for your unfortunate predicaments :crutch. So to cheer you up I suggest the rest of us pile down to your neck of the woods early season and catch lots of big bass so you can see the photo's/vid's and not feel left out .

Funny you should be talking about a trip down to the back of beyond as Fearthespear and myself plus one or 10 others were talking just before Christmas about an early one down there.
