glad to hear i aint the only one constantly whinging at myself/gear!!!!!

on more than one occasion i have found myself laid on the sea bed thinking the only reason i am here is cos i spent so much cash on the gear!! then i come to the top and remember its better down there rofl!!! just bought a new mask and snorkel so all gear sorted only myself to whinge at now!!!!

I lost my RA spear after stringing a fish in a thick Welsh kelp bed 3 weeks ago. A week later my nice new shiny spear arrived so decided to head West to try it out. In a brief 30 minute spell, I managed to miss 7 fish (5 bass and 2 flatties) from point blank range as they were resting in the kelp. Missing one or two shots I would put down to myself but missing 7 (SEVEN!!?!?!) is unimaginable. As the girlfriend witnessed all the shots, I was even more bitter. It has never happened before so I can't help thinking the hydrodynamics of the spear were quite variable for some reason. When shooting at the gill plate of 7-8lb fish that are stationary from two foot away it is seriously depressing. A target area of 5 inches in diameter is huge..........

Needless to say......... I whinged about the bloody spear!

Not been on here for a while, theres alot of nice fish being shot now. Managed to get in this evening for a quick one, mullet shoals everywhere in fact I was plagued with them for most of the dive.
Didnt manage to find a single bass but came across this little beauty sitting on the sand between some kelp, I did find another one a bit smaller than this but it somehow managed to rip off the spear and dissappear into some kelp, they seem very strong for a flatfish and dont give in that easily.

got in early this morning saw a few good flounder and a large shoal of mullet shot a nice size one only for him to go crazy and tear of so not a happy bunny, as said i anticipated it being chilly so doubled up on socks and gloves.

got in tonight, great little dive went looking for guilt head bream found them but they are fast little buggers, they dont hang about and quite hard to line up a shot especialy when there in about 2 foot of water, but managed to bag a nice one,tons of mullet, loads of bass but to small to take,real fun dive stalking about in the shallows.also saw bloody great sea trout must have been 6lb+ nice to watch....

How big was your gilthead bream?

around the 2lb mark, ive found a a couple of reefs where they are but its taken a few years
tides wind currents etc.
taking the kayaks out again tommorow see what happens.

This is me being grumpy old git but it always makes me shudder when I hear people saying "guilt head bream". It is Gilt-head bream as the gilt bit refers to the golden or "gilt" band over the forehead of the fish and therefore Dorada in Spanish, Daurade in French and Orata in Portugese and Italian which all relates to golden. Rant over as I am so boring these days that I don't dive but lurk in all the threads....

I'm hoping to get in after work tonight for the first time in what feels like an age. Probably pick one of my normal south coast marks. Am I playing too safe?

I see this might be a weather window to get in on the North Coast. Any suggstions by PM greatfully recieved. Just please bear in mind that I'm no superstar free diver so mainly hunt from the surface.

I work in Truro but hope to get away a 4 and head somewhere to get in for a few hours.

Hi Robbo.

Alas, no, I dont have an RS. I did have a 996 C4, but that had to go earlier this year unfortunately. Champagne taste, lemonade money. I couldn't keep running two cars. Although the 996 was cheaper to run than the Disco, I needed the practicallity.

Last PM was last September I think. Unfortunately I never got to tour it, but did give it some thorough workouts in Cornwall. It seemed to defy the laws of Physics in my book.

Still I got a new spear gun once the sale briefly bought the bank ballance back into the black.
