Headed way out west couple days ago. Vis was up to 8m or so. No fish to be seen other than juvenile pollock and wrasse but did decide to take a few of the numerous spiders. One problem, no bag. Managed to get three whilst still holding my gun which was quite a task but a bit of a laugh. The chilli and crab linguine more than justified the pinching though.
Can anyone advise me as to whether the current weather conditions are likely to give some reasonable vis on the north coast, and calmer safer waters? I'm working on the consistent easterlys and now Easterly swell having calmed down the Trevose Head to Godreavy area.
Far more farmiliar with south coast marks so would appreciate any pointers.

While down at the lizard/land end the past couple of days met some spearo's from north devon that said the north coast vis is like pea soup at the moment. Must be pretty good for them to trek all the way from north devon to land end. They did say they had managed a few good sized bass, mullet and flatties so things are starting to appear.
Can report the vis is 6-9m down land end/lizard which makes a nice change. Not much to see apart from lots of juvenile pollack, wrasse and the odd flash of mullet or bass.

Its a long drive but worth it for the clarity even if you dont see much, hopefully it will stay even with the rain that has now replacing the sun
Might well be the case, just got in at one of those spots i told you about and it was unfishable really. Vis was 1m tops. Swam out, swam in.

Just bought a Suunto Core to use as my spearo watch (I don't need all the functions of a dive computer, or the depth capability) will be interesting to see how my estimates of dive depth match it's readings.

I got in on the north coast (far west) a couple of hours after low tide. Winds are very strong, but picked a spot under some cliffs for some shelter.
Viz was good, but only spent 45mins in the water as could not shake off 2 seals thats followed me everywhere! I think I'd lost them, dive and hide and they would appear right in front of me again!

I'm contemplating a new gun for this year. Nothing wrong with my trusty Modial but I'd like a bit more range for those fab high vis days. My Modial is a 70 or 75 cm so thinking around a 95 or 105. I have seen the cressi geronimo elite mimetic which I really like the look of, although possibly a bit over the top.
What do you guys think of the gun. Particularly what are your views on a single band as oposed to band halves? Is it worth going to double bands as the gun can? If you do this do you load with both bands or is the idea that the front band would just be stretched a bit more or would be a more powerful band? And 95 or 105?

does anyone know where I can buy a 'dive Hunter', the one with the window? I'm not really too keen on the look of the 'Best hunter' unless anyone can recommend them or know of something else worth considering?

Well, it's all down to personal preference with length i guess as Cornwall offers visibility at both ends of the spectrum. I went through a phase of getting my guns as powerful as possible but soon settled on more accuracy with single 16's. I currently use a seatec snake 90 which comes with double 16's but i soon took one off, swapped the hideous smoby wishbones for dyneema and now it's just fine. I find i always find myself wishing i'd had a smaller gun rather than a bigger one fishing around Cornwall.

Sevylor have stopped manufacturing them now, Beuchat make a good one but they are a little pricey.
I have a cressi geronimo 105, Awesome gun for those clearer days with loads of power, fast tracking is hard work so better suited to long shots out the kelp.
something else worth considering?
How about a modified body-board float; works very well indeed.
